Your trying to builld a stawman mike. I was speaking in the context of economic upheaval which IMO, has has not even begun. (You forgot to copy that part.) That is one of the reasons people buy pms. Was it really that hard to figure out? //// But mike, if I'm a follower, as say you believe, then how is my statement a direct attack on folks who are not aligned with my thinking? Followers don't think. The herd does that for them. Follow the butt in front of baaaa baaa. Hey where's that ram going... stop asking questions. //// Hope I'm not being too cryptic for you mike.

"My problem with banks is that if we face an economic collapse of some sort which causes our country to face a period of "chaos" where our social infrastructure crumbles, I don't want to be left with nothing because I cant get into a bank vault."

I believe it is quite possible that an "economic collapse " may occur in the less than 500 year future, but not one that bullion would be much of a help. The chaos and social infrastructure of the world may crumble and create tremendous chaos due to environmental, tectonic , celestial, food/population/disease problems of far too many billions of humans.
You may wish someday for a tube of triple antibiotic ointment, or insulin injections more than an ounce of gold. if you die from a simple skin infection or diabetic gangrene, you lose possession of your bullion no matter where you keep it. If the Yellowstone caldera , Pompeii, or any of the other active sites go, bullion will mean little. Buy when you can, sell when you must, but plan for more severe problems than bank failures,
but then I am an optimist. :)

Agreed, you simply cannot plan around every scenario, live in the today, go with something thats works now and let the good times roll. I just have no interest in being king of the apocalypse, and if that ugly date comes, I do believe that our stacker friends will be very disappointed, as it will not play out like Jim Willie says.

Talk with your attorney about the laws in your state. In most states, what you plan to do is perfectly prudent, but there are some states where your heirs may not be able to access your SDB without a court order, even if it is only to retrieve your original will.

I have witnessed the handling of several estates and what seems like an insignificant detail can be a nightmare for your heirs. What might take you 30 minutes now could take them weeks and cost them thousands in legal fees.

As to the other discussion in this thread, these bullion/end of the world discussions always get interesting. Of course bullion isn't the cure to every possible crisis and I don't know that anyone really believes it is.

That being said, there are some people who are putting EVERYTHING into bullion for the sake of being prepared for the coming financial collapse that they are convinced is coming. Great! Good for them! Does that mean they believe their bullion will save them from a grizzly bear or a shark attack? No, of course not. They believe an economic collapse is the most likely threat to their well being and are willing to sacrifice other forms of preparedness in hopes of being able to buy everything they need.

In a perverted sort of way, I hope they're right. (Not really of course, but just for the sake of discussion...) I'm prepared in many ways. I guess you can say I'm diversified in my preparedness. The people that have gone "all in" with bullion are the guys that will be coming to me and offering an ounce of gold for a loaf of freshly baked bread. ;)

Agreed, but an ounce of Gold for a loaf of bread, does not sound like to good deal to me---FOR THE BREAD OWNER ;) In the new World the rules are changed.

:) I know you are kidding! The synthesis of silver sulfadiazine can be done in a 3yr chem class, but it needs a sophisticated lab and equipment, and unlike the HBO series, I never consume something I synthesize :vomit::hungover:
