The 2014 Shenandoah P 5 oz silver collector ATB coin will be released this Thursday. Just got the following email from the mint: Dear United States Mint Customer, The United States Mint will be processing your subscription order for the 2014 America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin™ in approximately 4 weeks. Why 4 weeks? I hope they ship sooner. Anyone else in? TC
I have a subscription for 3. One thing to note is that the mintage limit was increased from 25,000 to 30,000. Smoky Mountain sales slowed down drastically that past couple of weeks, and the quick sell out that many predicted hasn't happened yet. So with a higher mintage of 30,000 the Shenandoah will probably be for sale for several months.
I got the subscription just for the smoky mountain one. First one ever purchased. Still trying to decide how long to go before canceling.
I'm in, hopefully they ship the Subs first like last time. Not that it really matters.. Unless your a sub.
These ATB subscriptions are the best deal the mint has going on right now. C'mon $139.45 is a steal for these low mintage, big and shiny pucks. Some of the designs are also quite cool. TC
Despite the declaration, the mint will only mint 25k of these babies. They thought that they could spark interest with the 10% subcription discount but it isn't working. Watch the final mintage on this one to gage the sales of the next one in the series.
OK. After reading this thread, I went to the mint to check on my subscription. It shows I have two orders in. The first one was supposedly shipped on 5/1 (but has not been changed to my card). The other one shows an order for today saying "line cancelled" and a cost of $.01 and a new line showing a backorder to be shipped on 5/29. I'm so confuuuuuuuuuusssssssed!
They treat the subscription itself as an order. So when the 5/1 order "shipped", it really means that it was added to their subscription database. I think for the other one the $.01 might be used just to ping your card and make sure it is still active before trying to authorize the actual charge. That is just a guess though.
*The most massive things the Mint has ever issued to the general public lol... they're 3 inches in diameter, contain 5 troy ounces of silver. Unlike standard silver quarters, they are almost pure silver (99.99%) instead of 90% silver. And they're still legal tender for 25 cents lol... probably because of a very literal interpretation of the legislation that authorized them. So you can spend them! (Though wouldn't recommend it, unless silver drops below 5 cents an ounce.) You have to see one in person to appreciate how big one of these things are. Some quarter designs look especially good blown up to this size. (*as far as I know; certainly they're the biggest legal tender coins, not counting patterns. Some medals the U.S. Mint produced may tie or beat them though.)
