So I'm looking for a PM refiner within a reasonable (<200 mi) drive of NYC Metro area/north NJ. I have a sizable amount of scrap which makes it unwieldy to ship, and probably more expensive than driving it. I'd rather just toss the containers in the back of my truck and take a nice drive if possible. I'll be looking to refine standard jewelry and silverware stuff (plated/filled/normal gold and silver/silverplate), as well as electronics scrap (the bulk of the unwieldy to ship). If they take bronze and other copper scrap (wire, etc) that's a bonus but not necessary as I have a local salvage yard that I normally go to. I want to have a return of bullion for the PMs, not cash, which is why I'm looking to refine instead of just sell. Yes, I've started to research the rate of return on this vs. just selling, and I'm aware that my return may be less monetarily. But, I have my reasons and I think the amount I have will make it worth it. So, anyone have recommendations and/or past experiences?
Sounds like he is not selling it, just getting it refined, I don't think tax would apply, but I might be wrong.
Duh. The purpose of the thread was to find out if anyone has used any in the area and have feedback on their experiences, good, bad, etc. so that I can feel comfortable going to the chosen one sight unseen. Also for any other tips or gotchas for the process such as "separating all IC components will net higher return because of less labor", and the mentioned 1099 post is also a good one.
Correct. Looking to truck in scrap, and eventually a few weeks later get some shiny metal things in return...
I have a guy here near Albany, NY. He primarily does gold alloy jewelry and gold filled, along with sterling and other silver alloys. He doesn't do electroplate or any other metals. It's not his primary line of work and doesn't have a huge setup, but has always worked well for me.
