Its more, "I don't trust banks, so will buy gold when I have money and then sell it when I need money". Gold shops in Thailand are much different, and much BETTER, than here. Over there you start with the value of the weight of gold, then negotiate the premium for it being jewelry. When you sell, they buy it back at gold value. Compare this to the 500% markup on gold jewelry here when buying, and a pawn shop offering you 30 cents on the melt dollar when selling, and you can see why this idea is foreign to us. Gold is not the best, but still a decent method of savings over there. Way too much greed both buying and selling here to do this in the US.

I really do not mind her buying gold much, because it is not very much over melt value, (about the same as a lot of bullion coins). So, in a way, its like me buying another double eagle or two.

Yeah, that was about how I understood it except for the component of not trusting banks. My wife actually does like Gold Pandas. I buy her one every now and then, I think she is getting tired of them now though. She hasn't talked about them lately .

    doug444 STAMPS and POSTCARDS too!

Easy to fix. Ask her to seal two 1-ounce Pandas and a sprig of bamboo in a box and not disturb them for three months. When the opportunity avails itself, put a 1/10th ounce Panda in the box, remove the bamboo, and reseal. Then wait; this should quell the complaints.

If it's not a big deal, then why the 7 years? Who gives a crap about cash for clunkers, that money is printed or digitized out of thin air and then the taxpayer, you and I, get to foot the bill.

I just love how you just brush this stuff off like it's nothing. You swallow MSM's load of crap whole and thank them for it. Wow, just wow.

    Because they could.

Even 1% interest for seven years on $36B is $1.8B. Why not delay for seven years if you can get away with it?

Ok, but he just stated that it was chump change, so why care about the interest?

Wrong! US economy is 52 trillion dollars big. 17 trillion of it is debt.

Sorry to wail Medoraman. Concerning that audit of Ft. Knox, was that the audit they did in 1953?

Those things are nothing to concern our petty little minds with, it's all under control. Nobody get's their gold unless they want to wait so they can collect chump change in interest.

Yeah, stackers are Corporal Agarn but stockholders are Marcus Wellby M.D.

Well I brush it off because of the math, and the fact that Germans seem happy enough with the arangement.

Now this is the reason George Milling-Stanley gave....

Germany requested a phased delivery over seven years, with each shipment kept small and with no more than one ton in any single delivery, he told IBTimes. “Insurers will cover only deliveries by air, and will not insure shipments of more than one ton at a time,” he said, citing publicly available sources.

    Believe what you wish.

BTW, I am more of a FOX news guy......

Right, and FOX isn't part of the MSM nor is Milling-Stanley. That reason is a very nice and tidy excuse, but still doesn't explain 7 years, unless of course all the cargo flights are booked so tight that they just couldn't squeeze their gold on, one ton at a time...

I thought it was around 1971 or so. Why do stackers make a big deal about this anyway? Most of the time they get the ownership wrong anyway and say this is a Fed Reserve conspiracy when the fed does not even own it.

What in the World are you talking about. They are shipping it 1 ton at time, That means they are still doing a shipment every 3 1/2 days for the 7 years. These shipments are done in secret, different routes chosen, staggered, needs special security, etc. The time frame seems reasonable to me.

I also know some about security. I had a top secret clearance in the army. The first thing yoh learn is silence is the best protection. If no one knows about it that is the best protection. Well, everyone knows about ft knox. So, the next best thing is lack of specific information. Best way to do this is to not allow camera crews and outsiders in to see what security provisions are in place. So, in that light does the government refusing to let a bunch of conspiracy theorists host a kegger in their vaults seem reasonable? Sure does to me.

Do I think they have done tons of stuff I don't know about? I am sure they have. I do not though believe this conspiracy because its STUPID. Like Mike said, the amount of money is so tiny it would run the government for like what, a week? Why risk all the controversy over a week of income? It makes no sense on the face of it.
