You probably didn't know Ken that I was able to time travel. Actually, I made a typo. It should have said five 1999 clad proof sets. I've updated my earlier post. The Coors Light get stronger with each one:)

I'm kind of thinking the same thing...they will remain well above their original sales price but below where they are now.

If you're looking for a few predictions, here are mine:

The Silver Proof HOF's will settle at $80/each
The 2012 Silver Proof Set will settle at $120/each
The 2012 Clad Proof Set will settle at $50/each
The 2012 UNC Mint Set will settle at $50/each
The 2013 Silver Proof Set will settle at $80/each
The Hawaii Puck will settle at $500/each
The Acadia Puck will settle at $400/each
The Denali Puck will settle at $320/each
The Smokey Mountain Puck will settle at $180/each

I did predict that the Lincoln Chronicle Set would eventually settle at $80/each. It is now at just $90 on ebay. Of course, I bought the 1999 silver proof set at $275:)

I got burnt for even more Phil but that's what happens when one isn't patient. It can work the other way though. The trick is to know what is going to skyrocket and what is going to sink like a stone. Crystal ball would be handy but I should have known better. My bad.
It will reside in my collection for as long as I walk the earth.......:)

Here is the summer update of the clad proof sets. If anything, they seem to be trending lower in market value. If you looking to get rich off them, you better plan to retire a little later in life.

I here ya Ken. I'm still "living the good life" on my five 25th anniversary silver sets and my Hawaii collector's puck. It makes up for all the mint, clad, and silver proof sets as well as the plethora of presidential cover series.

  10. A little off topic for the date range, I picked up a run of 68-92 clad proof sets for $85 shipped. These things are dirt cheap and are fun to add to my collection. At these prices, it does seem they can get much lower. As to Phil's comment about the 1999 + sets drifting lower, I've seen many of the 2003-2006 sets with buy it nows on ebay for $7.50 shipped.

Below is the updated proof sets from 1955 to 2014. The ones from 55-64 are silver and the rest are clad. I have another thread for silver proof sets. The proof sets from the 90's to 06 continue to decline in value. They must be near rock bottom since you can almost break them open for their current market value. The 2012 continues to hold its value. Based on its current value, it may suggest that the 2014 set may be a good buy (still selling at the mint) and he 2013 set is undervalued in the market.

Modern clad proof sets can be a good deal if you sell them when the prices surge. See 19Lyrds example above. When talking to new or even semi-seasoned numismatists, I always strongly suggest they sell some of their duplicates or less wanted purchases into the secondary market. This experience is invaluable in helping them decide what to pay for future items and educating them about how the coin market works. It also helps develop relationships with coin dealers that can richen their coin collecting experience.

Below is the beginning of the year update on the U.S. mint proof sets. Despite an already low value at the last update, most of the clad sets from 1970-2000 continue to lose value. It can't go much further or we'll just break them open to buy a can of soda. The 2012 set continues to hold value. It is the only gem in this otherwise lack luster bunch. As the 2014 and 2015 sets may have less mintage at the end of the day, it will be interesting to see if they gain any traction. I wouldn't bet my pet rock on it though.

As the year ends, I thought it a good time to update the clad proof sets from 1955-2016. The mint is still selling the 2015 and 2016 sets. Mintages continue to decline each year for these deadbeats. It appears that everyone is now fully aware of this fact and are removing them from their Christmas lists. Apparently, the mint is unable to see this steady decline, charges too much, mints too many, and sells them for a couple of years after the original mintage year. Their values continue to dwindle. The 2012 set is holding some value but it is seeing some significant decline. Here is the Christmas bust for you:

hiya, I just found your post so my reply is kinda dated, both the 2014 and 2015 clad proof set are lower mintages than the 2012 and the 2015 silver set is lower than the 2012. New Key dates? haven't seen any pop in the prices yet.
