i'm planning to add 10 oz. of silver to my stack, wondering what the best deal would be. my budget is $250 but is flexible

*note* no research went into how much these options would cost, only weight was considered when i did the math

  3. I like the 2 ATB 5 oz pucks. You can buy the 2013 bullion versions on eBay for about $125 each or less with free shipping. Designs are cool. Size is impressive. Mintage is low. Best bang for the puck. :) TC

Matter of preference - I would prefer actual coins over silver bullion "coins" if silver value was approximately same.

I would agree with john. If I had the choice, I go with the 90% silver. Of course, I'm biased because I find the history of coinage a big bonus.

I would pay spot for circulated Morgans. Good luck finding that.

I like the 90% personally, and if you go that direction then you will find that 1/2's and dollars have higher premiums. Quarters are usually heavily worn so you wont be getting full weight. Roosevelt dimes can have wear but a lot of them won't, plus very low premiums.

hmmm all of them are great choices but it comes down to what you like. Some people like dimes, other quarters, others silver dollars, etc. I think your doing the right thing getting into something so whatever you choose, if it makes you happy thats the best thing :) Maybe buy one thing this time and next time buy another type. :)

  11. It is of course based on preference, but I picked the pucks based on bullion investing. Nothing wrong with 90%, but it will cost you much more than $250 to get the same amount of silver as in the two 5 oz (.999) pucks that can easily be had for $125 each. TC

I'd go with the 90% halves. They are usually the best deal. I got some for 14x face on Friday, which is pretty good nowadays. Even cull silver dollars are around $22 a piece, which is more than 14x face value.

Well it says you are interested in the best "deal" so I have to pick other. The best deal would be 10 shares of SLV. With its very low spread and lack of storage risk there is no better "deal" This gives you the absolute best chance to maximize any possible profits.

There are a lot better options for a lower premium if you were just buying these for bullion investing. I feel you are misleading people by saying that.
This. The people who benefit from physical bullion are the ones selling them to you at a premium.

Much would depend on why one is buying silver. SLV does not fit my needs, no matter how small the premium is.

Part of the appeal that precious metals have is portable wealth that is independent of the economy. If the economy tanks all of a sudden, and the markets are closed, how are you going to access the wealth you have stored in shares of SLV? If the stuff really hits the fan, do you suppose the people with access to the physical silver behind SLV are going to play by the non-existent rules?

Buying silver bullion with small or even no premiums at all is possible, just find someone else who wants to sell. (An individual, not a dealer of course.) When they want to sell, then they are not in a position to charge a premium. As long as you can make a better offer than what a dealer offers, which is sometimes below spot, then you might just get a good deal. Trouble is, buying in this manner is not as convenient as buying from a dealer and if you don't know coins or bullion, you might be vulnerable for getting scammed.

  18. How so? From the options listed, IMO, I think you get the most pure silver from the two pucks. The larger size leads to lower premiums that with the ASEs or MLs. A 10 oz bar would be better than the two pucks but that is not one of the options listed. If you are a fan of 90% so am I. I have plenty of it but it has to be at the right price. $25-30 for a cull Morgan or Peace dollar sure adds up quickly. I also said that it is up to personal preference. In my opinion, it is all good. I am not trying to persuade (or in your words mislead) anyone. I was asked my opinion and gave it.

I agree, SLV is not for everyone, but the question was what is the best deal and I am sticking to my opinion there is no better deal than SLV.
