I don't see any brown MS64 Indians current or sold on eBay, and the 64 RB have sold all over the place from $145-$299.... I know it's in an ANACS holder, but what do you think it's worth? I'm sure the toning has to add some value, but don't know how much.
You can't really second-guess where the bidding on the toning is going to go. I know I wouldn't let it sell for under $200.
Wow if that is not added toning i would say that if it is original it will add a huge premium to that coin maybe as much as 100 dollars!!
The coin looks artificially toned (AT) to me and it would sell for a far higher price if it were in a problem-free NGC or PCGS holder.
I just bought it a month or so ago from a local coin shop. It was in his back inventory that I had to ask to see. What makes you think it's AT? I know you have a lot more experience than I do so just trying to see how I can tell in the future.
The toning does look questionable...but I'm surprised that this coin was slabbed if it looks specious in hand. Those old white ANACS slabs date back to when ANACS was a very reputable grading company (they pale in comparison today). I wonder if it is AT...if it was somehow toned in the slab.
This slab is after the ANA sold ANACS to Amos Press, which means it is after the "golden age" of ANACS reputation.
His question regarded what makes you think that. In an earlier thread I noticed you said you were involved in the PNG definition of "coin doctoring." Perhaps if you link him to that he can see if it clears things up for him.
How can you tell? Is it the serial number? I thought they changed the slab to the clear slab with blue tag after the company was sold.
