Apmex is selling these on ebay, $5 Proof Gold Eagles NGC or PCGS graded PF69 random dates for $155.24 with free shipping. Also you get $3.10 in ebucks back if you are enrolled in the ebuck plan.

This deal is still good as of 1/1/2014

I thought that this deal was pretty good since raw $5 Gold Eagles are selling for $143.62 on ebay. I don't know how to copy a link to this page, maybe someone here on Cointalk can find and add this page. :) I am trying to post a link.

I put a full time watch on this $5 proof gold eagle from Apmex, when the price seems good I will buy. This coin is on usually on Apmex's full time list, no one can say when is the right time to buy a coin with a floating price. :)

Buy one when you think it is a good deal, and if the price come's down then just buy one more. I believe that these graded proof $5 gold eagles are worth $190 to $205, the US Mint is asking $180 for a 2013 coin in the OGP.

I received my coins today and am very happy. The dates were:

    1995W - NGC PF 69
    1999W - PCGS PR 69
    1997W - PCGS PR 69

This was way more than I expected as far as random dates, very nice.

    Apmex :)

    Why?

If most come from the mint as 69 or 70's, and only 70's carry any premium, how could you possibly believe that one direct from the mint, which may grade 70, is worth LESS than one guaranteed not to grade 70?

There is nothing wrong with these coins at all, but they are the rejects effectively. They are the low graded, deficient coins from batches submitted by large dealers hoping for 70's. That is why they are priced the way they are. The slab adds noting IMHO to the value of these, except to prove to you that you do NOT own a 70.

I agree with what you are saying medorman, the only way I would buy a 70 graded coin is if it had a very low mintage or it had a very good price.

I see way to many collector's spending high premium's on the 70 graded coin's, I like 69 graded coins myself. You are right, these $5 proof gold eagle's are nice and I believe are a better buy than a ms69 gold eagle by far! :)

I actually own many $5 proof gold eagle's in the OGP and graded versions.

Do you remeber when you could buy a $5 proof gold eagle from the mint for $59,$69 ~ $89.
