What a joke. They could have at least put Doomsday and Superman fighting on one of them. Seriously though, these trix are for kids. The stamps from Canada Post would be cool, if they weren't the adhesive peel and stick kind. I would have liked to see a Superman logo circulation quarter. These are not for me. The last silver proof coin I paid a mint for, was John Lennon, the Alderney 5£ in 2010. I didn't buy it for the coin.

When they released the coins in Winnipeg, they dressed this guy up in a Superman costume. Silly me, and here I thought the mint had money to get a real look-alike. My best guess, I think the Canadian Superman at the RCM coin display might be of Filipino background, but, I could be wrong.:D I was a bit confused, were they mocking Superman or honouring him?

Collectors are paying a high premium for the gold Superman coin...

Definitely not for me, I avoid NCLT like the plague...

Well, I do like NCLT but not these. Still, I understand that there are collectors out there who are going to want these issues. Nothing wrong with that...........:)

I don't think many people would expect the gold coin to jump that high. The retail price was $750 plus tax for Canadian. I didn't buy it because it would come to $850 after tax. Provident have one for sale around $2500. A quick look at Ebay land and you'll be lucky to get one around $1500. I personally think the gold coin is the nicest of the series but also the most expensive one.

While I appreciate some things the RCM does for collectors like off metal strikes, they have really jumped the shark lately. There is an advertiser in WCN in Canadian, and they have like 80 2013 coins for sale. I really do hope someone talks to them, or they will end up killing the golden goose.

So, its not this coin I really object to, (though I thought it funny how they claim Toronto was Metropolis), but the sheer, ungodly numbers of coins coming out from a mint that is for a very small country population wise. Its not to the extent of Tuvalu, but I woukd say, (no offense meant to my Canadian friends), that nowadays Canada is the Tuvalu of western democracies.

I know what you mean, Medora. These Superman coins are laughable to me. We have the Royal Canadian Mint which puts out tons of crap, with a decent coin thrown in every once in a while. On the other hand, we have the U. S. Mint, which wouldn't know a creative idea if it bit it in the butt. It would be great if we could find a happy middle ground.

The only thing our small population protects us from, are these sort of innovations...

    http://www.merrickmint.com/

The "A fool and his/her money are soon parted" population just isn't big enough for north of the border expansion.;)

However, US style TV infomercials (DRTV) already occasionally remind us that we should... "Avoid disappointment and future regret".

I have to agree. As much as I like some of the Canadian coins that are released the RCM put outs too many coins and most of them are not that artistic in my opinion. Not that the US has artistic coins either but definitely a smaller volume being released. Too many interest groups and lobbyist to every get a truly creative coin in the US nowadays. The more popular coins (AE) are designs from the Golden Age of American coins!!!

Maybe this is their attempt to get more YN's into coins. Just look at some of CT's avatar's lately. Along that line, I'm thinking to change mine into a casket. It would be more apropos. :>)

Silly or not, I've bought one of the Superman hologram coins at the issue price. I am afraid Superman has way too many fans to have missed out. Will it make a difference in the greater scheme of things? Probably not, but at the least I get to feel younger again. lol

If I knew about these sooner and if I had the money, I would've purchased the gold coin. It's going for over $1,750 on ebay.
