I never buy from LCS's anymore. I can find better deals on a youtube channel called "stackerville." its a page where all the silver stackers on youtube post stuff for sale, trade or wants. A dealer named argent agent once sold a 1 oz horse for 28 bucks! and a 2oz for 54!

I don't have an LCS so I usually use Provident 1st, then Apmex, Gainesville Coins and other sites like Golden Eagle Coins, Amagi Metals or other internet retailers. I also do a lot of peer to peer at bullion stacker.

I will tell you that right now Provident has $4.95 shipping on all orders and freeship50 will get you free shipping at apmex on orders over $50.....good luck

Speaking of Argent Agent, he is a very fair dealer, here is his Youtube page, just private message him about wanting to buy some gold and silver, he is a legit dealer. He will contact you back with his number. http://www.youtube.com/user/ArgentAgent47

I would buy silver over gold because I view it as more undervalued based on the gold/silver ratio being out of wack both with historical norms and even more out of wack with current supply and demand.

Gold is better protected from down moves, but will not reward you as highly for up moves either. So if you want the safe play, go for gold. Gold also has lower premiums on an ounce to ounce percentage basis, but I also think silver premiums have more upside potential since there is far less silver available.

My favorite online retailer is Provident Metals, and then APMEX. I have no need to look further. I like to visit the coin shops in my area, but if you want the best deals you'll want to find a coin show calendar and frequent the shows.

I have heard both good and bad about Apmex and Provident. The down side for Provident is its shipping time frames, they can take awhile to get your orders processed. Apmex is more expensive then most online distributors, and their shipping is meant for more bulk orders, the upside for both is they both have a nice selection and Ebay now ships Apmex so you can get cheaper shipping that way.

I would go with Provident if I had to choose based on pricing, but if you don't care about paying a higher premium go with Apmex since they have a huge selection and much better shipping times.

Thanks for sharing the shipping code for APMEX, PP. It's unusual for them to be so generous.

You're welcome and it works, as I used it last night. If you're looking for good cheap gold, the lunar snake 1/10th and 1/4 are very cheap for .999 gold fractionals.

I like apmex personally. Their prices and shipping are a bit more, but they tend to have a nicer selection, good customer service, and good shipping times. I've bought from Provident a few times, and while their prices are good, I don't like having to wait so long for my order to ship. That may be okay during a period when prices are stable, but with the volatility these days I much prefer to have my purchase sooner.

Reputable local coin shops. I walk in with the cash, walk out with the goods - no worries about shipping charges, waiting for the mailman, getting scammed, ect.

A little of everything. APMEX was very pleasant to deal with even though they were a bit high.

I even bought some from Goldline, back when I was still wet behind the ears....boy was that a ripoff!

Now it's mostly EBay and the LCS. I managed to win some bids on gold coins below spot. The work required in trying to win a bid on gold coins is taxing. It's a lot easier winning bids on silver because there are so many of them, you can find some nobody else bid on.

Gold coins are not nearly as numerous on EBay as silver, so they get picked over more thoroughly. I spent days bidding like crazy on hundreds of gold coins without winning a single one. Then suddenly I started winning bids for a brief time. Now I can't win one to save my life. So I went back to the LCS and got one for less than I had been bidding on EBay.

I buy silver all over the place. I check out pawn shops, antique shops and coin shops. I have bought on E-bay, but I would rather find stuff my self. Gold coins are usually at jewelery shops, and I am not a gold bug. I like mildly numismatic coins, so something cool and small is all I buy. For example I bought a tiny Mexican gold coin for my last purchase last year.

So far I've bought gold/silver from the Mint , APMEX, Gainesville, MCM, Silvertowne and some other I don't remember. I like APMEX but their s/h was high. I think now it's $25.00 for >$1,000.00 purchase. All of the above vendor offered good service. I think SilverTowne had slow shipping. Have only bought graded coins from eBay and STILL had problems.

    Good luck,,

I like to target small sellers on ebay that list there silver at a set price with a best offer. Sometimes you will find a seller who really needs the cash and may cut you a real good deal. :) They may have bought there silver at a very low price long ago and may offer a discount and still make a profit.

Provident, Apmex, Kitco and of course the U.S. Mint. I'm still waiting for my 2 Gold Rev Proof Buffs that I ordered a bit late. They've been put off until 9/30/13. I hope they won't be rejects from others that returned their coins. I'm not sure what I'll do if I get an unacceptable coin, or 2. Obviously I'll send it back to the mint, but what about the costs or returning the coins, insurance, etc. Will the mint reimburse me for all my costs of the return of their coin(s)?

I've really never had any coins from the mint that I wanted to return. But, if these turn out badly, I will have to do something to reacquire my funds.
If worse comes to worse, I'll still have 2 OZTs of .9999 gold. Of course, at a premium price.

Let's just wait and see what they send me and how I grade them. I could live with 2 - 2013 Rev Proof American Buffalo .9999 GOLD coins that are RP 69's! With no blemishes to drop it below a 69. Maybe my eye will be wrong, and they'll be 70's!!!
