Well I was gonna let people know how the purchase of 4 -10 oz scottsdale stackers is working out. The problem is someone locked my last thread and I am not really sure why, so here is what happened. I got the tracking info today and he shipped it USPS 2 day Priority mail for me. so by Thursday this week I will know if he did what he was supposed to. For those who do not know what I am talking about. I purchased 4 stackers from a guy for $960 and I originally saw his stuff selling on Ebay. I contacted him and got his phone number to see if he would do some business outside of Ebay and he was willing to and at a good price considering I got the 4 bars for $20 less for each bar then they are selling on scottsdale right now. So for those of you who responded good or bad, this is the update. Worked out with purchase through Paypal.
There is no specific 2 day priority mail it's just priority mail. Although it usually takes 2-3 days it depends on the location item is shipped from and is being delivered too. Also purchasing through Paypal doesn't mean it's completely safe, especially if they find out somehow that you screwed over EBay then they will close your accounts. Also the seller could send you a box with brick in it and as long as they have a tracking # showing it's been delivered/signed for you'd be in for quite a fight trying to get your money refunded with only a Paypal case. You would have been safer on EBay though you'd be paying a little more for that added safety but in some cases such as a purchase of this amount if something goes wrong it's worth it.
The same thing could happen on ebay with someone sending me a brick, so not sure I agree with that thought process, but I understand what your saying. Paypal is used widely for many business, so to choose to deal through ebay or not really should not be the main focus. I was looking for a way for both the seller and I to make out better.
You do realize Ebay and Paypal are connected, they still get a piece of the pie. Not the big portion it normally gets for its non store owners, but they make out pretty well if you think about it either way.
I don't know if this belongs in the bullion section. Is there a "How to Cheat Ebay and Other Businesses" section this could be moved to? On a $940 purchase you ripped ebay off for at least $50. Furthermore, you have shown how much your word is worth (less than $80).
Wow, are you a rep for Ebay? Your taking this a bit personal. Am I taking money out of your pockets? The point is not about ebay, the point is that I found a good seller who is willing to work with me outside the constraints that is Ebay. Thus less fees and more money in his pocket, less money out my pocket. Trust me, Ebay is not worried about anyone's feeling when it comes to money.
I am not upset, but that may be why others are. There seems to be a lot of hatred towards big business in the world these days. All these big companies are essentially owned by regular people, whom are depending on them for their retirement.
Ebay ripped the UK govy for 50 million, but I guess that's just business huh? If they afford the lawyers to get around paying almost every dollar of the taxes on their income then its alright? While the poor people in UK are paying 10-20% of their income in taxes, Ebay is paying around 1%. I guess that is OK with you? Or are you going to take your business elsewhere now that you've found this out? If not, then aren't you a hypocrite?
Oh my, you managed to fit an amazing number of rationalizations into so few sentences. It was only a small amount of money I took, they have plenty of money anyway, and plus they do it all the time so why can't I. Look, own your actions. You went against the policies of ebay plain and simple. Your actions are not those of an ethical person, be honest with yourself about that. Quick test, called the Kantian imperative, if your actions were to become universal would the outcome be bad or good? It's a pretty simple and useful guide to good behavior.
The British newspaper affirmed that eBay legally channels payments through Luxembourg and Switzerland to avoid paying nearly £50m in tax in Britain. Using a group-wide profit margin of 23%, eBay’s UK profits would have been £181million in 2010, meaning a tax bill of £51million, the media said. The keyword is legally. If the U.K. doesn't like it, change the law.
That's why I said they can afford the expensive lawyers to get around it, while the little guy can't. If you can make that statement, then how about if Ebay doesn't like what ScFy did they can take him to court and prove he has actually done something illegal. Have you heard the saying innocent until proven guilty? Until they do, ScFy has legally found a way to get around the rules, SAME AS EBAY DID IN UK.
Uh huh. Government good. Big businesses bad. Send money to gov't so they can "invest" it wisely. Haha. ( edited.)
Your mistaking my post, the government in UK is cooperating with Ebay and allowing them to not pay any taxes. Government wastes the majority of the money it gets, but if Ebay is going to pay 1% tax, then the citizens who aren't making millions of dollars a year shouldn't be paying anymore than 1%. All taxes should be lowered, most of tax just goes to make interest payments to the mega-banks, especially the case in the USA.
This thread is heading for removal if the political aspects continue. There are other sites for political posting.
Not looking to get political in anyway, there are 2 guys doing that, please hold them accountable, not the whole thread.
Considering they have now disrupted 2 threads to the point of closure. Please keep us posted on how your deal works out SCFY, I for one like to hear stories of successful transactions such as this.
If your against it then dont follow the thread your not going to change his mind and he's not going to change yours. By complaining, you are holding us back from a transaction story.
