Are you a jerk because you have the beef to be a bully, or are you just a jerk?

Dude, whats with the broad sweeping generalizations?

I am 26 years old, i have several collections of items that have taken time to build and maintain and one is probably the best private collection of these particular items assembled in the last 50 years. I also have built, managed, and steered the way of 3 of our families businesses. So you are coming off as quite uninformed and unbecoming. I know more about hard work and effort than most of the people from my generation, and I actively try to build our town and community up through volunteer work and being a member of various organizations that have similar ideals.

You should probably take a step back and work on that over generalization thing you have going on.

I have no problem sleeping at night, and nothing you say or do is going to effect that. I will always go the route that is right for me. If following ebays rules is what helps you sleep at night, then by all means continue, but just realize not EVERYONE shares your opinion, and you will be called out for doing something like calling a forum member out as a cheater when there is no evidence to suggest so.

Just a jerk I guess, but please explain how giving examples and hypotheticals makes me a jerk? I already said I dont actively poach B&Ms or pawn shops, and I said it was out of respect. So How is that being a jerk?

Also, who is the bigger jerk? The one who called someone a cheater without ANY evidence, or the one who tried to stand up for the other side of the argument and was thus attacked by being called out on several generalizations?

    HMMMMM

Im thick skinned and can take criticisms quite well, but calling someone a cheater for utilizing certain tactics simply because the other responder doesnt agree with said tactic is quite ridiculous. I took it as an attack on my personal behavior since i use similar tactics in my ebaying and decided i should speak out for the other side of the argument. I responded to a jerk-ish post, now it may have been a little of a belittling response, but I dont take a persons feelings into consideration when they blatantly call another forum user a name. They lost my respect when they name called the other person first. All of my responses were after that users initial post (which probably breaks T&C here by the way as that would be name calling or a personal attack, you know since SoDude like to bring terms up in his arguments but breaks them here).

Of course all of this is in my personal opinion

    Ebay's Policies:

If you violate these policies, you ARE a cheat and you're nothing more than a moocher who uses the products and success of others for your own gain. Integrity has nothing to do with the size of the company you are dealing with; it has everything to do with abiding by terms that you mutually agree upon.

Dude, I never called the poster a cheater.

The seller gave his word through a handshake agreement with ebay not to do certain things. I think it is clear that he broke his word. Maybe the poster can elaborate about exactly what took place if you think it is other than what I said.

We probably all have done something like this, whether it's ripping off ebay, or downloading music illegally or what have you. It's not right but we do it. But it's a bit much for people to get all righteous about doing it (because the other party is a wealthy person or corporation).

It's getting too common for folks to be act like victims and bash businesses. For example, just recently we had the long thread about the evil big coin dealers getting special treatment from the Mint on the West Point Set. That was unproven, but who cares about proof when it comes to bashing rich businesspeople, right?

My reading comprehensions skill most definitely failed me on this one. I apologize for railing against you in such a manner, but I took it to mean the OP was a cheater for trying to save some money and haggle a deal (and thus myself since i practice the same tactics), not so much the seller. I dont have a problem with it either way, but my semantics were wrong on this one.

I sincerely apologize. However I will still attempt to make deals as I see fit, even circumventing ebay if the opportunity presents itself. I work hard for my money and I dont like to give it away unnecessarily and I spend enough on ebay to fell justified in circumveningt them from time to time.

Not to mention it has built better relationships with myself and dealers. It shows im not afraid to make a deal, I care about their money as much as mine, and I am willing to enter in to some dialogue with them and work on building a relationship, many of which i plan on returning to in the future. I see how it 'hurts' ebay, but like I said, ebay has to earn my respect (and so far they havent) and if they cared about me id care much more about them, as it stands now, I prefer to back the dealers who actually provide a tangible asset for me and provide stellar customer service by working with whatever needs I may need addressed. The problem with ebay is like the problem of a big bank. Its easier to say no or enforce a rule than it is to actually get into the situation and find out what the customer really wants or needs.

eBay avoids £50m corporation tax bill by channelling payments through Luxembourg

According to an investigation by The Sunday Times, using a group-wide profit margin of 23 per cent, eBay's UK profits would have been £181million in 2010. At the time this would have resulted in a corporation tax bill of £51million.

But the total amount of tax paid by the firm's four main UK-based subsidiaries for that year was £1.2million.

So the average citizen is paying those high taxes meanwhile:

Big five internet firms paid 0.8pc tax on UK profits
nternet giants avoided about £650 million in UK corporation tax in 2010 by legally taking payments via offshore companies, according to analysis by Financial Mail.
The research into the tax paid by Apple, Amazon, Google, eBay and Facebook will reignite the debate as to how much tax multinationals pay.

Funny but I see Ebay as a way to connect to a seller you like, and maybe do dealings with them later without using ebay so we can both make out better overall. I do not dislike ebay, but do think that they have a monopoly when it comes to this type of online auctions. So to set up a deal outside of ebay to save on fees makes sense to me.

I don't care how you see it. Ebay has explicit terms and by doing business with them you are agreeing to abide by their terms. They can set whatever terms they choose, and you can either agree to them or not. If you don't agree to them, then you should stay off of Ebay.
