I have 17 silver dimes and 17 silver nickels and 15 40% silver halves and two 90% and 6 silver quarters and a bunch of forgien silver most of which come from coin roll hunting I. Fairly knew to silver stalking and I'm hoping to get a couple silver bars Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
I wouldn't worry about getting silver bars. If you want .999 instead of .90 purity, simply get ASE's. Much easier to sell if you need to, plus the fun of "collecting" them. I have some bars, and they are troublesome to ensure they are pure silver, and about as fun as a doorstop.
I'm a fan of bars between 5 oz and 500 grams....A 500 gram Geiger, Umicore, Pamp or Argor-Heraeus will sell everybit as quick as 16 ASE's with everybit as much of a premium...Anyone who tells you diffrent probably lives in the states and has never bought or sold out of the states and have an American bias.
I guess i was assuming the states for the ASE part, but still believe that nowadays there is slightly less risk with coins versus bars. 25 years ago bars were a good way to go, but with the fakes coming out of china becoming more convincing I would not risk ot today. Maybe if I were an expert in those bars I would feel better, but I am not and neither are most people.
You mean "neither are most American coin collectors"....There have been more fake ASE found than all four of the bars I named combined, I beleive there have been a few fake PAMP gold bars found but not silver.....I like poured bars more than pressed.
