Yep, I actually ordered one. It showed up in my order history just like any other order with a ship date and everything. However, about a week later I got a cancellation email.
Hi. Does that email show the date (specifically that it was ordered outside the original 1 month window)? If so, may I request a copy of that? I am taking action against the mint and this would be the only piece of evidence and not just rumor/speculation that I have heard of. As a fellow numismatist I would really appreciate it.
The ordering window was a month. Everyone had a fair chance to order the set. If they get returns and cancellations of the product then they should be melted, not resold.........
My order says it's been reserved and being processed for several days now. Maybe this is the Mint's attempt to stop further cancelations? They took the cancelation box away from me so that is no longer an option. They may be trying to "stop the bleeding".
By "take action" do you mean a lawsuit? It was nothing more than a website glitch that allowed me to order it. That's why the mint canceled it. I don't think the mint is doing anything nefarious. They're not selling any more of the sets, chill.
Taking action with no evidence, just rumors and speculation that you've heard? I think what happened yesterday started out as a website glitch, and then a hoax (the phone call to the Mint).
Yay, mine showed up today. Sitting by my door when I got home. Not happy about that though. Initial inspection is they look very nice
The whole situation is still up in the air. My feeling is the mint won't be doing any re-offerings.......
AAAAAHHHH!!!!! WHERE IS MY SET!!?!??!?!?!!! What's the point of ordering the set on the first day if you get none of the benefits.
That's what the mint calls, "Quality customer service". There are numerous examples where the mint leaves us all in the dark - probably as bad as customer service gets out there. But, it’s expected with a government run monopoly.
Just cancelled my order of 3 after being fed up with waiting, then reading this thread I see others had the same thoughts as me. As time passed I felt less and less willing to pay $139 for 2oz of silver. I'd rather buy some 1/10th oz proof gold, which is exactly what I'll do once I figure out what I want. Clicking the final cancellation link was liberating! I will have no regrets, and didn't really think the 2012 set was worth the cost either so I never bothered ordering that last year. Overpriced silver is becoming the norm at these mints, but as spot has dropped I am not impressed with all these overpriced silver coins. OK, I'm done . .
I didn't have a chance to look through all 46 pages of replies to this thread but i'll pose the question anyway. What doe you guys think pf 70s of this set should cost?
I think a fair analysis would be to look at the premiums charged for a similar coin like the 2013-W Burnished Silver Eagle. When it first came out it cost $48.95, although that price has since dropped by $5. The big dealers have a PCGS/NGC MS70 priced in the $75 - $84 range. So they are charging a $30 premium on a per coin basis. Since the burnished coin and both of the West Point coins have had more than 50% grade 70, it should be fair to assume that the same bulk grading cost and premium could be applied to the West Point set. If that was the case, it should be priced around $200. ($140 + $30 + $30 = $200) So they are selling for about $100 more than they should be, but that is capitalism.
Why not use the 2012-W Eagle, or the 2012-S set? The burnished is the least popular Eagle of 2013 and it's still available from the Mint, whereas the WP Set is the most popular Eagle and it is no longer available from the Mint.
