I called customer service yesterday to see what happened to my order. It was to ship a week ago but then no more information. I was told it will be another two weeks before it will be available. Then you need to add a few more days for it to arrive. I wonder if they are waiting to see how the production number adjusts with the change in silver pricing? That makes the premium even greater on the set's price and I'm sure caused another round of cancelations. As a side note: This is the 6th time the mint has given me a different ship date since I placed my order.
I'm gonna go ahead and let you guys know that the shipping has been ridiculous for mine. It shipped over the weekend and left Indy via FedEx on Monday. It arrived in Charlotte at noon on Wednesday (yesterday), now it has gone from FedEx over to USPS and neither site is tracking much except USPS saying they received notification. I had an expected deliver date of Saturday, but with it being so close to me yesterday afternoon I figured I would've had it today. I wonder why they switched carriers like that in the middle of transit? Do they take it to a hub and then have USPS deliver to maybe save on cost? That's just a little odd to me.
It's called Fedex Smartpost. The USPS is better geared towards delivering to residential customers than Fedex. And I assume fedex adds some value in the initial stages (pickup, logistics, transit between hubs).
yep..it's annoying as it adds a couple days onto shipping. I've had stuff shipped like this from Newegg and their warehouse is only an hour or so away from me. It takes 3 days to go an hour because of the carrier switch.
even though i own at least one of every silver eagle except 4 from the 2011 set and the key date '94, this was the first time i ordered direct from the mint. I logged into their site at 11:55am on the first day of the sale but did not get my order to go through until 3pm. my shipping date has changed 4-5x, yet i saw people receiving GRADED coins a month ago. i am disgusted. i will NEVER buy direct from the mint again. i called 2x into the customer service phone number to be told totally different BS stories both times; they each completely contradicted what the other rep said. today my order FINALLY says shipped and has a tracking number. but, yup, you guessed it. IT DOESN'T WORK! fail fail fail US Mint! you have embarrassed yourself. compared to the Canadian mint, it isn't even a comparison. I have placed both large and small orders from the Canadian Mint and NEVER have had ANY type of issue. from date of order to receiving has been 9 days or less EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. i think this will be the end of my Silver Eagle passion. as far as silver goes, i think in the future it will be numismatic canadian silver coins and 100 oz bars. i wanted to start focusing on gold anyway, the US Mint has finally broken the camels back. oh yeah, almost forgot, i felt like a 5'3" pretty little whiteboy in prison paying the premium on this 2 coin set.....thanks 'Murica!
Nothing odd about the practice. It's FDX smartpost and FDX handles the carrying up till the handoff to the Postal Service, who completes the delivery. Saves the postal service a bundle in carrying charges. I'm curious though. The mint sent my order through UPS and I had to sign for it. With FDX smartpost the mail carrier can usually just drop your package at the door (or mailbox). Not that I'm trying to raise any flags here Trey, but I wonder why they would switch carriers too.
Ordered on 6/1, started off with a ship date of 9/30, then about 2 weeks later it moved up to 9/17, today it moved up to 8/9. Must be a whole lot of cancellations. Might be good for sitting on them?
mines arrived today. I would venture a guess at least of 69s on both of them. I couldnt see any luster breaks or oddities with them
