2013w american buffalo one ounce .999 pure gold reverse proof. how many are you going to buy this piece?. what will be the initial price?. and is there any future for holding this one?. give your opinion. thanks.
Pretty sure you already have the same answer regarding pricing as anyone else reading press releases from the U.S. Mint, Mint News Blog or Coin Update and/or any other repeated source of the same information: "Pricing will be according to the US Mint’s pricing grid for gold and platinum numismatic products. Based on the existing grid, for a gold price within the $1,250 to $1,299.99 range, the coins would be $1,640 each. The actual price will be determined based on the average weekly gold price during the period leading up to the release and may vary during the course of the offering." As for the future value, it's anyone's guess. When the 20th Anniversary 2006 RP AGE was available, there were just 10,000 minted. That's the Mint actually creating rarity. With this new AGB RP it will be much higher, especially with the wholesale dealers and TPG looking to cash in off awarding themselves meaningless designations on labels and perfect grades to ensure overpriced aftermarket markups. Mint-to-demand, will ensure mintages well above 10k for this coin. When the 2006 AGB released it was about $800, from the Mint, which includes their hefty numismatic premium mark up. Gold spot is now in decline after a few years of excessively over priced panic buying charged it up, but it's less than 10 years since the AGB coin lauched and these new collector coins will sell for double the 2006 retail price. The really hot AGBs, the 2008 fractionals are behind us and have secured their value since the Mint doesn't mint them anymore. Now you're offered a coin that is using the same gimmick to sell pricey bullion, the Reverse Proof, a thing which is quickly becoming a less and less special "effect" applied to a coin, AND which is now done with a lesser quality technique of laser etching, a rather crude surface treatment compared to the actually well defined proofs struck on these coins in the first few years before the Mint shifted gears for capitalizing on profit at the expense of quality. As with most US Mint releases, your future value lies in an arbitrary labeling system generated outside the Mint by the major TPGs hawking Early Release and First Strike nonsense with subjectively "perfect" grade 70 coins. From there, how convinced are the public at buying into these schemes will show you what these are "worth".
Does anybody purchase coins anymore just because they like them and admire their character and beauty. It's just too bad that it usually always comes down to money. I would think this might be a coin that someone might purchase just because it they found it attractive.
Actually I would buy the AGB because of it's beauty but my budget won't allow it, yeah that and my wife.
I was thinking of buying two but the upcoming platinum coin has my attention (not a fan of the gears but still a pretty coin) so i may just do one. My wife is already giving me dirty looks and I haven't even bought the damn things yet
I have to agree with treehugger. I consider myself a collector first and so when I buy a coin it's because the design caught my eye. The fact that there may be precious metal content is an added bonus. Do I like the the design on this coin? Absolutely!! Unfortunately the price for this coin does make it about money for me personally. I hope in the next few years to be able to set aside more money so I can buy a beautiful coin like this one!!
What platinum coin? One of the platinum statue of liberty issues? Yuck in that design, no offense if you dig it. I just can't see the comparison between that and the Perth platypus. If I had the money for the reverse proof buffalo, I'd spring for it, but I'm only $800 deep in my eBay sale coin money (the only budget I use for coins), so it looks like by the time I save enough it'll be going towards a platypus since the buffaloes will be sold out, but gosh that buffalo is amazing. I can't imagine it not being at the top of anyone's list.
I agree it is a nice looking coin, it will be more popular than the high relief gold coin and probably will sell for more. Ebay pre-sale at $2495 already, I wonder how many they will sell ~ 30,000 ?
Yes, i'm talking about the new platinum eagle. I am definitely getting a RP Buffalo but I do like the new Platinum. I agree w/ you in general on the coin series though, I am not a fan of the designs and I really don't like the way Lady Liberty looks, but this year I do like (gears aside) the design.
Hey BIG man, let me hold a dollar........ I'll probably get a graded 70 from one of the big boys. With the premium from the Mint and Ebay fees it will be hard to flip these and make it worth the time and effort. I've seen PCGS 70s on the '13 Proof Buffalos and AGEs sell below issue price AND grading fees. This time no ordering, no form to fill out, no standing in line at the USPS, no worrying if the USPS delivers and no worrying about the grades. Now, on the last day with low sales numbers...well that's another story. Good luck on your 5 Silver Eagle, good to see ya !! .
Alright, I saw the platinum proof you were talking about - that is a nice design with the gears and all, better than the rest of that series. Still dislike the statue of liberty obverse, but I can see why the gears design is appealing. Of course, im also sold on the platypus, which has the queen's mug on one side, so I guess one side is enough for both of us.
Hello Chief ~ I may revise that number (5) but I am in ! After all this is a Reverse Proof Gold Buffalo, I'll probably buy them 1 at a time during the ordering window. Do you see any reason to keep them sealed in the mint box, for re-sale ? You might want to put a lean on that new Harley at your local Pawn Shop and go all in on these Buff's (lol). Buy @ $1645 ~ Sell @ $2495 maybe (%10 ebay fee's)(%3 paypal fee's)(insured shipping @ say $125) - total investment is say $2095 ! Est + $500 if all go's well
