I thought I'd start a thread where everyone can post their gold coins here's mine, a 1915 Austrian gold 20 crona
here's a few the 1882 $5 was found in a friends attic in a drawer of a box that couldn't be opened she gave it to me to open it knowing there was stuff in it I found the $5 a Morgan a 1893-o barber dime a gold pocket watch assorted gold jewelry including her husbands great grandmothers wedding ring I bought the $5 from her immediately there was a au 1926 Lincoln cent that was the latest dated thing I found letters were dated from the teens this lot hadn't seen the light of day since around 1930 at the latest this same friend a couple years earlier had found a 1851 gold $1 in a trunk in the attic too which I also bought
Mid 1850s been in her husbands family since it was built mine was built ca 1785 I haven't found a thing another friend who also works for me on occasion was dismantling a ca 1770 house in Yarmouth Maine and found a xf oak tree sixpence under the sill I've tried repeatedly to buy it but he's not selling ( I don't blame him!!)
All those amazing finds and you didn't find any punctuation? Gadzooks! I'm certain people had punctuation in the '30s. I guess you can't find everything...
Lol I'm an uneducated redneck not an English major actually i don't have a computer just an iPhone and don't even know how to use a computer!! I do antique furniture and house restoration and custom woodwork by trade where propper grammar and punctuation is completely irrelevant
LOL! Looks like you found a bunch of excuses in that 'attic in a drawer of a box' as well. Anyways, it sounds like it was a whopper of a find for you and I'm glad you can share some of it here with this forum. But man-oh-man! was it ever difficult to untangle the text dumped out like that. FWIW, an iPhone is a computer and I use one too with no problem inserting punctuation or correcting grammar I may have mistyped into posts. Grammar is rarely ever perfect from person to person, let alone agreed upon by native speakers, but neither grammar nor punctuation are completely irrelevant. I don't assume people to be uneducated, no matter what they studied or make a living at. Rather it's the human tendency to be lazy, particularly with the technology that's so pervasive now for our talkative whiles. From skipping something as basic as punctuation, all kinds of things start going haywire. And really, if not for presenting yourself in clear detail and communicating the thoughts you are having accurately, its also a courtesy to readers and interested onlookers who want to share with you too. Thanks again for the pics and story, and the little chat.
Krispy, I have problems using my dad's an android and I'm 14! So lay off, it's an awesome story and if you can't decipher it, your loss.
There remains no excuse for poor punctuation. Blaming ones age and technology are not justifications to get others to accept it. It's as I said, the technology allows and inspires a kind of lazed approach to communicating well, accurately and courteously. That's the loss.
I have standards too krispy, but for grammar, correct in a nice way, don't bash. For those who are wise enough to accept that correction it will be a blessing .
Reread my posts. I didn't put the guy down at all, thanked him for sharing the pics and attempted story and for the chat. You're argument with me is misdirected. Redirect your focus at working hard on something else and you might end up with some gold coins to post.
I agree with that last part, but implying that someone is lazy is mean. I also have no problem with people correcting errors in my grammar and welcome it, as long as it's in a friendly way .
