They moved mine up just now to the original shipping date I had when I initially ordered. The latest was 08/09/2013, now back to 07/22/13. This is the fourth time the mint has changed the date. Either a lot of cancellations or a lot of dealer returns from their large orders. If the strike quality isn't MS69, blemish free, I'll send mine back as well. If they want that high a premium they better provide just as high a quality.
I'm totally with you and am going to do the same if my set isn't perfect. It'll be a bummer because I really want to display the set in my room with the OGP but I guess I could just get something to display 2 graded slabs instead.
That is so true, krispy. If you don't need to have something right away (and really, who does when you sit down and think about it), in most cases, you can do better if you have the patience to wait. Also, after you have waited a while, you realize it wasn't all that important in the first place in the grand scheme of things. Because, as you said, the next "big thing" will come along in a little while.
At PCGS 73% of the enhanced coins are getting a 70 grade. 60% of the reverse proof are getting a 70. I guess the question is how much pre-screening do the big dealers do before submitting their orders. Based on Silvertowne's pictures I would say not very much. My conclusion is that the concerns over getting a big dealer's rejects are overblown.
I'd be willing to bet that they don't "pre-screen" any coins they send in for grading on a bulk submission like these. Why would they? On a bulk submission, they can use a minimum grade standard of 69, and anything less than a 69 does not get slabbed. It would make no sense to spend any money on doing something the TPG will do for them.
I cancelled the second of my two orders today. It still had a ship date of 9/17. my first order, which was placed the third day of availability, has a "projected" ship date of 8/09. One shall wait and see I suppose
That is probably true. But I guess my point is that if more than half are 70s, there are likely to be very few that would have been 68 or lower. So I am not worried about getting someone else's rejects.
I ordered late of the fist day. My ship date moved from 8/9 to 7/24. I sure hope that I'm not getting a TPG reject.
Sort of, your credit card will be charged and you will have the cost of a second shipping, but you get to see what your buying.
Not what I mean. If you return them this late in the game, will they have others to replace it with in exchange?
They will have plenty of returns/rejects to send out to replace them. Some have reported getting items in worse condition than their returned items from the Mint.
And the race to the bottom is on....PCGS 70's for $289....it's Goldmart..so prepare yourself for a nice wait to get them... http://www.goldmart.com/2013-w-silv...t-pcgs-pr70-ms70-first-strike-flag-label.html
Enhanced Silver Eagle is un-attractive to me and the Reverse Proof with the (W) mint mark has been over-done. I think that the 2012 S set will do much better in the long run in my opinion.
