Here's a side-by-side of the 2013 Kilo Kookaburra & Kilo Koala. (I see lots of pics and youtube clips of the Kilo Koala, but, not really any of the Kilo Kookaburra)

Thanks acan451, I made up a plan with my future wife to do 2 things, first is with the money we get from our wedding to invest about $2500 into silver bullion, so I am trying to decide what to buy. Also I convinced her to give me $65-70 a week towards silver. so we will combine our paychecks every week and have about $140 a week to put towards silver. I figure close to $600 a month should be a good ways to go towards a nice investment. she has the 401K already so me doing the PMs makes sense to diversify not including cash savings.

Sounds like a good plan, I have been stacking silver for a few years now and it does add up very quick. I don't invest any were close to that much and I can still see the amount of silver I have grow just the same. Plus it is a lot of fun.....Alan

Well Alan, me and my fiance make ok money I guess you could say, and she has lofty goals lol. So to get what she wants I convinced her that saving in this manner is a great way to see her money grow literally LOL. Yes it is fun to see your stack grow, I agree....Rich

I'd buy gold then. you aren't going to make money in PM, all you're doing is trying to preserve wealth in case of a disaster that isn't a total apocalypse.

So the people who bought silver at $20 and sold at $48 didn't make money? or even better bought at $5. There is potential for both. Same principles as the stock market, buy low sell high.

how much did they really make by the time they paid the middleman twice? physical isn't usually about making much money, especially in the quantities you're buying

Do you ever watch pawn stars? See the episode on youtube where the kid bought silver at $5 and sold in the mid $30 range. He had over 3000 ozs so yes there is money to be made. Just on pure spot price.

Buy it at 5 then. it's unlikely we'll ever see a big gain like that again. and even so, where do you park the cash?

You are missing something important Commodities are different than stocks. Over the long haul, you can only expect PM to break even with inflation. Silver pays no interest, no dividends, does not grow. Equities on the other hand, you can expect to beat inflation, they represent a piece of something who's future earnings can outpace current earnings, in other words, they grow. So while it is certainly possible to make money after inflation with PM's , that really should not be the long term goal. Holding PM's are really best suited to preserve wealth not grow wealth.

Now if you are talking for shorter durations, anything can happen. If you are looking for short term speculation though, I really have to recommend a better entry point than $19.00 That is just not cheap silver.

OK I am confused, if silver does not grow then why are we all buying silver? I am no market expert, but all the experts I read every week say this is a great time, to invest in silver . I mean no disrespected at all but like I said I am just confused. People are posting their silver buys here every day and talking about the price being down is a good time to buy. Are you saying silver is a bad investment, please help me understand just what you mean. All the best Alan

I think its funny how both sides of the equation think. The commodity buyers all think silver and gold is a great investment for the future, while the people who are more into stocks tend to down the idea of silver and gold being a good long term investment. Yet people forget that only a few years ago the recession wiped out a lot of people savings for retirement and people had to go back to work, so I have to question how safe stocks are in comparison.

to preserve wealth, for collecting and for emergencies. if you think you're going to get rich buying from apmex and selling back to them you're a fool.

Some people get rich if they buy enough and time it right.
