no worries, Yak. It's a discussion. And yes, fields was the proper term. I believe (as I don't have one in hand yet either) that the fields are mirrored as are parts of the devices. I also agree that if the fields are lightly frosted rather than mirrored it may have significant impact on my opinion of what to call the coin.
Mine has gone... 9/30, 8/8, 9/30, 9/17. That's a really long time to wait for an order that was placed in May.
My number is 41494XXX, I ordered as a guest through the mint so can anyone tell me about how far out I was? I don't see where I can see the time stamp, but I ordered mine May 9th
If you can use the tracking page, the order date time stamp line is just below the the order number. If you can't track, look carefully at your confirmation email. If the time isn't in the mail, look at when it was sent, that will be about one minute later than your order time.
Regarding first in, first out......all you need is a few heavy hitters in the first few minutes of the product offering to derail everyone else down the list.
I'm assuming the heavy hitters have their own customer service reps. So they got on the phone ahead of time and at 12:00 they had their orders put through. They would have had some of their sets sent overnight directly to PCGS and NGC, and the rest delivered normally so they could cherry pick.
Why would they cherry pick when they can put a minimum grade standard on their bulk submission. Why add any costs when the graders will do that work for you as part of your submission?
You're probably right. But it depends on which way (bulk submission vs in-house cherry picking) produces the greatest profits.
How would you know that ahead of time. This is a new finish and production method with no past history to refer to.
Has anyone received a delivery for the graded 2-coin set from Goldmart.com yet? I ordered 2 sets from Silvertowne after I ordered from Goldmart.com and have already received one set and the other is on the way. I'm a little nervous about the one I ordered from Goldmart...after reading their reviews.
The problems with Goldmart are not the product, it's the long shipping times and useless customer service.
The sets only started shipping one week ago, but there is already quite a bit of data to help determine the most profitable route. They have the population reports, they sold out of the initial PCGS 70 sets so they have a price point, and they have the coins in hand to examine. Now they can plug the data into their models (e.g. if 50% of bulk submissions are coming back PR70, how would that compare if they had some interns cherry pick the best sets? or what if the bulk submissions are running 1:3 or 4:3 etc?). You can set up an Excel worksheet and use the percentages and costs to get the best approach.
So we are saying this might be possible from this point forward since this data wasn't available prior? But they cannot order anymore from this date forward. If 50% of the bulk submissions were coming back MS70, then it's already too late to have interns cherry pick them.
It doesn't matter that they can't order anymore. This was the most anticipated release of the year. Any big retailer worth his salt ordered massive quantities. They can return them to the Mint for a refund if sales don't match their expectations. Don't assume they sent all of their sets to the TPGs already. Some retailers are taking preorders for NGC non Early Releases labels; so we can assume those sets have not been submitted yet. If a firm ordered 10,000 sets, they might have had only a portion of them sent directly to a TPG.
I ordered around 3:30 the first day and I'm in the same boat as you. I wouldn't put too much stock in the projected shipping dates as they've never been very accurate in the past. I'll be surprised if I don't get my set within a couple weeks.
As one who hasn't had the opportunity to see one in hand yet, thanks for letting me borrow your eyeballs.:thumb:
My delivery date has been pushed up from 9/30 to 9/17 (WooHoo!)...I cancelled my order. I'm moving and I have to jump through hoops to change the shipping address of an existing order. Even if I did, I wouldn't see the product until after the seven (7) day return period. The odds of getting "picked-over" merchandise this late in the game is too high for my comfort level. The Mint has orders for 281,310 sets. Even if 20% of the orders are cancelled or returned, that still leaves 225,048 sets (quite a few, actually). I'll have to take a chance at picking up a nice set in a year or two...perhaps at a discount! I'll spend my money on First Spouse coins...at least their prices adjust as PMs fall.
