I meant to vote dimes but accidentally voted quarters. I personally will take mercury dimes whenever I can get them and also really love Walking Liberty Halves.

I do, but can't really ever get them for melt, unless they are dateless.

I have seen Standing Liberty Quarters with dates in the 90% bin, typically grading only Good. I don't find them all that appealing, though their scarcity may add a bit to their value.I have bought only one SLQ. It has VF details, but has obviously been cleaned.

Is melt calculated as (Spot) x .715 for 90% junk excluding silver dollars?

Sorry, may be a stupid questions.

That's why I like Merc's, you can get excellent condition at times for spot.

    For melt?

That would be a pretty good deal.

    I found this for dimes:

    90% Silver

    2.500g (weight)

    0.07234 (ASW= Actual Silver weight)

    $0.10 denomination

    X #1 piece

    =
    $1.62

    Just multiply for other denominations

    ie: quarter = 2.5X
    Half 5X

There are about 13.5 silver dimes to a Troy ounce (480 grains). For much of human history (as a popular YouTube video points out) for many people a days wage was just about the equivalent of one silver dime. In India, parts of Africa and some other places where the poor work in sweat shops for $2 a day, that is still true. I know a total economic collapse probably won't happen in my life time, but still it is fun to plan for it. I also like collecting junk silver quarters. G3 or lower. Just so long as the holder can tell it was/is a quarter or a dime. It is okay if the date is worn off.

I like franklin halves, but having all sizes is best in the event you need to barter. I have been able to get common morgan's at spot for over 2 years now so I have picked a few up here and there. Paying a premium on 1oz rounds/bars just doesn't make sense to me anymore.
