Soooo...the 2013-W Burnished Silver Eagle goes on sale at noon today. I feel like it has gotten ZERO attention/discussion. With all of the hype around the West Point 2 Coin Set, I have a feeling this one is going to have a very low mintage compared to 2006, 2007, 2008, 2011, 2012....definitely picking one up today....anyone else? Thoughts?

  3. You are correct. It has received very little attention. I still like the 2012 burnished ASE though...very low mintage. TC

Not one of the more popular eagles. Maybe they should give it a mirror like finish or something.

Last year it went on sale in August several weeks after sales had stopped for the San Francisco set. I don't think it is a wise move to start selling it at the same time as the West Point set, but it could be a sleeper.

It will be tough for a simple "W" mint mark to get much attention if it is going to compete against proofs, reverse proofs, and enhanced uncirculated versions.

I saw a post on the Collector's Universe forum that the plan for next year is that the burnished uncirculated will be replaced by the enhanced uncirculated eagle from this year's special set. I'm not sure if that is speculation or if the person has an actual source.

That plan would make some sense because we know that the mint will want to continue to use their new technology. But it would be a real disappointment to those who think this year's enhanced uncirculated will be a one year type coin.

I think the '06 will always be the low mintage but this years could be lower that the rest with the other ASE offers gaining the attention.

well once they start selling the encrusted silver eagles those will be low mintage

The 2012 is sold out and the mintage is roughly half of what the 2006 was.

I want this one to go along with my proof version and the 2-coin ASE set. I'm probably going to wait until next Thurs. and order this one with the new 5 oz. ATB coin.... save some shipping cost.

Talk about under the radar, I usually get a heads up e-mail from the mint 4 weeks out on subscription items but this one hasn't shown up yet. Nothing in the order tracking either. Has anyone with a subscription gotten any notices or have their orders listed?

To me, it's just a bit overpriced. I picked up 11 2007s for $33 each a week ago, it's tough to spend $50 on a 2013. Of course, it could be that they'll cost $80 in the aftermarket soon enough, but that's a chance I'm willing to take.

I received my seven 2013-W Burnished Eagles yesterday.
    Very disappointed with the quality.
One is perfect, two have big dings in the field on the obverse, and the others have various inconsistencies in the finish.
I'm going to to do a return, but I'm not sure if it's worthwhile to get an exchange or just give up and take a refund.

Yeppers. I too have a subscription for 5 with 1 for me and 1 each for the grandsons and 2 for speculation. I received them a couple of days ago and they're lovely.

That said, I really never did understand the 'burnished' concept.

    peace,

    rono
