Woody, I don't think these are "junk" coins as you call them. I happen to like the set along with another 200,000+ collectors out there. Woody, would you do me a favor and post a couple of your nice coins, I'd like to see what you collect.
I just checked the US Mint website (207,400) and it said "Product will be available to ship 8/30/2013." My order still says "Expected to ship 9/30/2013." Me thinks there must be some kind of error on the date??
Yeah, that shipping date will change several times before this sale is done - yours will probably be updated as well. That's 207,200, not 207,400 - not that it matters much.
No error. As orders come in, they continue to move the date. If the kept promising 6/17, buyers would be livid when they didn't get them.
The final mintage will be determined by the cost of the SP 69 and SP 70 Sets that are offered by the people who sell these graded sets. If they are relatively inexpensive I along with others will buy the graded sets and cancel the ones that they have on order from the mint there by lowering the final mintage.
If it is anything like last year, they will have a plethora of SP70 sets. I'm still guessing a final mintage of about 250k after the cancelations.
Not that it really matters, but there are probably only 50,000, if even that many, collectors who have purchased these sets so far. Between all the dealer purchases and collectors buying 2+ sets. I think this set will do better than last years as far as value, both coins in this set are unique right? While last years the reverse proof was the only unique one. If the mintage comes in under last years 224k, it should really be a big winner. But anything under 250k or so is pretty good i think. I was originally expecting close to 300k on this set, but doesn't look like it will get quite that high.
The reverse proof is the same finish as the 06-P, 11-P and 12-S, but it will have the W mintmark. The enhanced uncirculated will be the first of its kind from the mint.
Out of storage space. I'm buying a PCGS MS70 set from Silvertowne or whomever offers the lowest price.
I think he's excited and was hoping for an earlier ship date since he was one of the first to order. I think I'll go and look at my date just for the fun of it. :>)
Exactamundo Sam. So many times in the past I've seen the expected shipping date pushed back. Not so with this issue!
The mintage will be etched in stone before set 1 arrives at any grading company. I am curious as to how you think the sets will affect the mintage numbers. Please explain.
yeah i didn't get that either i thought i was reading what he wrote wrong. it's open for sale for a month. then they make them. then people start receiving them. some get graded. how does the price get affected by something that happened at the end?? the mintage was established first.....
It's been common practice over the past couple of years for a few large retailers and eBay sellers to offer graded mint issues before the mint begins shipment. So...I guess the idea is that if these guys start selling PR70's within a few dollars of the mint's price, then we'll see a lot of people buying cheap graded sets and canceling mint orders. Also, the mint historically has not fulfilled all of it's orders until 3 or 4 months after the sales closing date, giving later-ship-date buyers plenty of time to see what's happening in the secondary market before they consider canceling mint orders.
