When I disagree with someone's source, I try to offer an alternative. It's a fair way to argue. No one has offered alternatives to Longnine009's Rand excerpt.
I posted the link. It's not an artical, it's an excerpt from Rand's novel. And if someone has a link to a better explanation of money, I'd like to see it.
Its a shame you continue to be blind/ignorant of what it is he posted. He didn't say he wants to inhabit a Rand-ian society, its an explanation of money. And a good one. One would expect more from such a senior poster...
It is a good explanation of how money works, however it starts from the premise of "money is the root of all evil." This is something that a lot of people do believe, but the original quote was "the love of money is the root of all evil."
There is an interesting video on youtube called 'top 14 reasons to buy silver.' I don't agree with all of it, but fast forward to minute 30 and the last 10 minutes are both interesting historical allusions and seem (based on what I can find elsewhere) fairly factual. Much of human history 1 days wages equaled 1 silver dime. Regardless of if it was a Roman silver Denarius or a Barber dime. Indeed today many humans actually earn less as their days wages.
Forum rules aside, people have the right to call you whatever they want. Of course that doesn't make it true and it often winds up making them look like a fool as has happened in this situation...
Would be nice to get back on topic. FryDaddyJr, despite the philosophical debates, you haven't responded to the thread with regard to your bullion end game. If you have the time please do so.
Just like gold was not initially referred to as a barbarous relic, rather the gold standard was. My end game plan is retirement. I don't yet know what that entails, but basically I just want to accumulate as much as I can at these prices so that when I retire I will have a nest egg that is safe from the financial system. I doubt I will travel the world or blow it on a mid-life crisis. I just want to maintain my quality of life and pass on the rest to my family.
Howdy folks, Other than the digression, it's been an interesting topic. My end game for accumulating bullion is Peace of Mind first and foremost. My grandkids have their stuffed animals they refer to as their 'bed buddies'. Well, my wee little pm stash is my bed buddy. peace, rono
I have a few "end games" as follows: 1) coins - these are for my enjoyment. Yes, they will hold at minimum their PM contents value. I open the safe, I take them out, marvel at my own exquisite tastes and ability to collect such beauty. I rub them through their air-tites, slabs, or mint packaging, wipe the fingerprints off, and put them away. I will never sell these, and my daughter will one day inherit them. and her children. and so on. and hopefully one day, one of my future descendants will say "gee, great grandpappy rysherms was a cool old dude". for example, i am not retiring because of the coins in the picture. but when you arrange all 6 of those like that; they are flippin beautiful. im not selling it. and i dont know how many people have all 6 of those. maybe the set of 5, maybe the 1, but i doubt all 6. i like it. 2) Bar Bullion - this is my true investment. I sell off my useless crappola on feebay and buy bars. I invest a portion of my own "paycheck fiat" when I think the prices are reasonable and buy more bars. I stack them in the safe. I do not sell them. One day, I may. depends on how my other investments go or what immature decisions I make that causes me to need to sell a 10 ounce bar for bail money. Hopefully I wont have to and they will follow me around until they get passed along with the coins. PMs are not a "get rich quick scheme' and if you are investing RIGHT NOW AT THIS ONCE IN A LIFETIME MOMENT like so many people like Mike Maloney, David Morgan, Chris Duane, blah blah blah insist that you do, you are making the wrong investment. sure, you may time your purchases at the right moment and sell at the other to see a great profit. but chances are you dont have enough fiat right now to dump into them for that to multiply in this once in a lifetime growth rate that is just about to explode to be able to "get rich and retire".
