Yep. Have a friend post an ad that's similar enough to attract the guy but different enough to not look like it's you baiting him.

That said, he may have only had one bar. But, you never know.

...Or I could publicly post his phone number to all the people on this forum and you guys can take turns prank calling him for the next year. LOL! Just kidding!

Reminds me of the guy who won the Lottery but didn't quit his job, he just called in sick every day for the rest of his life. :)

could always make a new add with different info.

As a seller, I would not be comfortable giving my home address to a person I'm considering selling to on craigslist. I used to use my gmail address that is my firstname.lastname.mt at gmail. I decided even that might not be such a good idea, so Icreated an anonymous email address that I use now.

Once we've sat down and I'm comfortable that the deal is going well and that the other person is sincere, then I would provide my information if they wanted to make sure I wasn't scamming them. But if someone responded to an ad and before we even met they asked for my home address so they could check me out, sorry, that's not happening.

In this situation, I didn't ask for the address until I had the bar in hand and he agreed to a refund. That's when he gave me the bogus address. The deal had already happened.

I would echo those who have commended you sharing your story here Tabortot. However, I have to unfortunately agree with the seller. His text shows he is fairly shrewd. He said you performed your due diligence, and have handed the bar over three times to others to look at. He said he cannot be responsible for if they switched bars on you. This is true.

Pragmatically, we both know he is a liar and conman, but look in the mirror. You were going to buy $1200-1300 worth of silver from someone for $500. To me, you were looking at a deal in which YOU were going to be the one with superior knowledge and profit at someone else's expense, no? Do you think you could go to a coin dealer and buy it for that price? Of course you couldn't. You were trying to effectively take advantage of someone else but got burned yourself. Because of that, I simply do not have a ton of sympathy.

I hate like I am coming off as a heartless jerk, but that is how I view it. We have had others trying to buy rare coins and offering the people like $.30 cents on the dollar to normal wholesale prices or equivalent also get burned by fakes. I had the same opinion then. Any time someone is trying to buy at a deep discount, trying to take advantage of someone else's lack of knowledge, I simply have no sympathy if they themselves get taken advantage of.

Again, not trying to say this to be mean, and I do hope we can be friends here. I am just saying to look in the mirror, and remember if you had went to a legitimate source, and paid fair market value, you would be holding $500 worth of silver today. Instead, you failed a character test, and as a result have a paperweight. Many of us have been there man. Dust yourself off, do the right thing, and learn from this painful lesson.

Hope things go better for you in the future.

That's a very crass assumption, "Chris". I'd like you to take back what you said.
