Stainless Steel. I'm playing phone tag with the seller. Hopefully, all is returned to it's respective owner this weekend.

Yes, good luck, I think you'll need all you can get. Seller knew what was what. Phone tag is just the first sign you are going to need help, or worse, will have paid some 'tuition'. Incredible that Craigslist makes ebay look a safe haven for buying, especially given the amount of fakes, cast copies, etc, that DON'T get found/pulled and people 'pay this tuition'. A Craigslist deal? I wish you VERY good luck, as you will need it. I hope justice prevails for you.

You will never get ahold of this guy without the cops getting involved in my opinion. He knew what he was doing and he hoped someone out there would be naive enough to give him hard currency for stainless. No offense but how could you buy that just on what some scumbag on craigslist said.....if it really was silver he could just take it to any number of places and sell it without the hassle of craigslist....literally would take him like two seconds to sell it.

Exactly and he would have got more for it if it was real silver as well. If something seems to good to be true...well we all know the saying.

He called me back around 9:30 tonight. He told me that he would stand behind the deal and that he would refund the money. Right now, we have it set up that we will meet tomorrow evening at the location of our first meeting. He also told me that he'd bring some old coins to sell if I was interested. HA! I'd just like my $500 back please.

Take an officer or deputy sheriff with you. Even if he returns your money, it's still fraud, and if he's bringing fake coins, that would be intent to distribute counterfeit currency, which is a felony, regardless of the denomination.

forget that bring a gun with you....he might try to rob you. I don't know what is going on here but either you are making this up to save face (i don't know you but from your posts this doesn't seem likely as you admitted your mistake already), or this guy is just buying time for some reason with another lie, or you two just happened to be the two most uninformed people out there who struck a mutually weird and crazy deal that made no sense and now you guys are somehow going to make it right. If he actually shows up and brings you your money that would be the craziest part of this whole story in my opinion. Unless he knew he was ripping you off and now is afraid to get arrested or something since he had a brain fart and gave you actual contact info. Who knows with this but be ready for anything, there are crazies out there and alot of them kick it on craigslist.

But this guy already told you he got the core tested which had to be a lie because whoever did the testing would have scooped that up for the price you paid right then and there......don't get burned twice by this guy my friend, my guess is he doesn't show.

Thanks again for all the advice. Here are a few things that I feel I need to get cleared up:

    1. I don't have a gun so I won't bring that with me. I have a feeling that even if I did, things would get worse than they should.

    2. Contrary to what cmilladoo thinks, I'm not trying to save face but saying that I am meeting with him today. Yes, you don't know me but I'm not the type of guy to make this up to save face with members of this forum that I don't know. The seller and I are planning to meet tonight where I hope to get my money back. I will let you know tonight what happens with our meeting. If it doesn't happen, I will let you know. If it does, I will let you know. Regardless of whether you believe me or not is your choice.

    3. For those who continue to tell me how stupid/senseless I am, I have already learned a valuable less from this (whether I get my money back or not) and I have taken the advice to heart from many people on this forum. This has been a wake-up call for me and I will not put myself in this position again without having more knowledge of what I am buying. Please limit the name-calling and personal attacks.

    4. As of right now, I am not planning on bringing a sheriff's deputy with me at this meeting. I'm not trying to defend this guy but he has returned every phone call that I have made to him and been very forthcoming and apologetic in our conversations. Yes, I am now taking everything that he says to me with a grain of salt but I am going to give him a chance to make things right. However, if he doesn't show or gives me the runaround, I will contact authorities and pursue my options.

Again, thanks. I didn't realize that this would turn into a 5+ page thread but again, I appreciate all the positive advice those have offered. This has definitely been a lesson learned for me. I hope by this evening, I will be $500 richer.

Did he ever make a reference to how he got it? Where did he get it from?

if you carefully read my post i said that one option was that you were trying to save face but that I did NOT think that was the case because of your earlier posts where you admitted that you made a mistake by trusting this guy.

    2. I agree...who cares.

    3. People that tell you you're stupid are only trying to convince themselves they wouldn't fall into the same situation...ignore them.

    4. I would definitely report your situation to the authorities prior to the meeting and listen to their recommendations. You're probably going about it the right way, but it doesn't hurt to document the situation as you go with trustworthy, disinterested third parties...in advance.

Okay...I know that there will be a lot of "told ya so's" but he was a no-show tonight. I called him multiple times but his phone was off as it went straight to voicemail.

I then called the local police department and described the situation to an officer. She told me that the only thing that I can do is call the Small Claims Court and file a claim.

I then went 20 minutes out of my way to go by the address that he gave me. The address took me to an industrial park...obviously a fake address.

I called the seller again later tonight and his phone was on because it was ringing; however, he didn't pick up. I then sent him a text stating that if he doesn't contact me in the next 24 hours, I will contact the police and small claims court on Monday.

Ugh! I'm such an idiot. Live and learn...unfortunately, this was a costly mistake.

He said that he's owned it for a while. He said that someone gave it to him as a payment for something.
