my stack would be considered "small" by many here, i would think, but 75% of my stack is ASE's while the other 25% is in 10oz bars. currently, these 10oz bars are APMEX stackers. going forward, if i was looking to sell, would i be that much better off going more with the ASE's or would i be "ok" with those 10oz bars? i really like the bars, but, i do not want to hurt myself on the resale. also, they are never in stock anymore. ever. in addtion, with regards to 5oz or 10oz, or i would guess, even 1oz or 100oz, how much does it matter which bars one purchases? i mean, i have read there can be certain premiums on engelhard or others, but would there be huge difference, and would it be "safe" to keep picking up APMEX, or silvertowne or any like-branded bars? thank you
Kilo silver bars at .59 over in any quantity at Provident, that is the best deal for retail silver currently in my opinion. I think it will work better buying those bars at .59 over, you should be able to get spot when you sell them. (providents listed buy back price is actually .10 over spot) But you could probably sell them elsewhere for spot as well. If you buy eagles at their current premium $3-4, you will probably get $1 over, maybe $2 over spot at best. So the spread there is $2-3 bucks, rather than .59 cents.
Silvertowne has been around since the last silver boom, so they'll likely be around for the next one, too. Provident... I don't know. I trust them right now, but going forward, if they're not around, they might not be on the "preferred" list when liquidating the bars.
Problem with bars is there is no way of knowing they are solid silver unless you drill them or smelt them. Personally, at this point i would never buy a bar due to chinese faking everything, and silver is very easy to fake its sg.
not with the high premiums they're charging. let them drill the dumb bars in your imaginary scenarios
No drilling needed at this house, thank you. ALL my silver is dimes and quarters, no weird stuff, nothing to authenticate. The fact that the premium for junk is higher than bars or rounds ought to tell you something.
For silver bullion, so far I only have Mint issued coins: 2013 Silver Maple, 2013 ASE, 2013 Austria Philharmonic, 2013 Canada Wildlife Bison, 2013 New Zealand Fiji Takus, 2013 Australian Kookoburra. I'm considering the Apmex 10oz. bar, but, still have some other 2013 mint issued coins on my desire list. 2013 ASE are around 37% of my stack. If the spot price drops into my target range, I'll probably pick up more tubes of ASE.
Howdy, I've got most every type and variation of bullion but have concentrated on name brand stuff. It costs more up front but pays more when sold AND you can sell it much easier. This includes ASEs and other country coins (leafs, 'tads, pandas, brits, phillies, etc.). It also includes name brand ingot silver like JM or Englehard. You can buy something with the least premium that's plain vanilla silver rounds and bars made by BillyBob's Bowling Alley and Mint but you may have a harder time selling it down the road. Oh, and when it comes to conterfits, they're have been fake ASEs starting to show up so please don't think that anything is safe. peace, rono
I think it's good to have a little bit of everything. bars, low mintage high quality coins, junk, morgans, etc. diversify.
thank you for all the input, it is greatly appreciated. hmm, well, it seems i have more to think about, as everyone here seems to favor one side or another. one more question. i understand that in terms of providers/issuers of bars/rounds, APMEX may not be "elite," but does their size not provide some form of safety, in that their size may mean they will be around for quite some time?
I wouldn't worry about what it says on it. englehard, apmes, etc. modrencoinmart is issuing their own stuff. monarch precious metals has their own bars too
My last buy was from Provident Metals for the Canadian Bison to complete the series plus I boought some "Morgsn" bullion, .999' They have always been reliable & the least expensive.
