Well this is unrelated to the silver part but just wanted to update as far as the raffle for the baseball tickets. Luck must be on my side, I won the White Sox tickets and the 100 bucks to spend at the game!

The boss man will receive the tickets for several games for the Sox...He then will let me decide which game I would like to go to. I'm hoping for a cross town classic set Sox vs Cubs at the "Cell"

If I'm reading this right....did you get 26 bucks for a half a pound of aluminum cans???? Or is that how much per pound? Kind of hard to see but awesome that more are people are jumping in on this. Not only are you getting silver but we are going green as well.

Wow, that's what I see to! I think it's time we go scrap our aluminum foil, if we can get that much for it!

I just want to take a second and thank everyone for the comments and the interest shown in this topic. It's nice to have something people can relate and share their experiences as well. To all that are doing this I wish you the best of luck as well. It certainly can be very time consuming and as well as requiring a great deal of patience. I will have another load I will be dropping by the scrap yard her in the next few days. With any luck there will be another post and picture to come along as a result. Thanks again!

Ah, that's more understandable. How long were you in returning? 52 lbs of cans seems like A LOT!!

No problem. This is definitely the most interesting thread that I've read in a LONG time. I tip my hat to you that you have the patience and the energy to do this. Good luck on that drop off later on!

    It's roughly about 32-33 12oz pop cans per lb....rough equals 1716 cans...thats quite a few....lol

If this helps Pi- when I go to turn in they have a giant scale sitting on the ground....they usually take the bag of can and place it on scale and then send me to their pay window with a slip of paper with the weight and what type of metal...then they empty the bag of cans into this huge crusher that I wanna say makes either 40 or 50 lb bails of aluminum

I will scrap anything metal. I pick up cans when I walk the dog and at work. There were 3 projection tv dumped at my work. I seperate all the copper and other none ferrous metals out of them from the scrap the steel. It is not something i do all the time but if i see something someone is tossing out (grills, vacumes, ect.) It gets tossed in the back of my truck.

Great! At my work we are sitting on about 20 dead desktop computers...I'm trying to get them to let me scrap them since they are not doing anything but collecting dust and taking up space. The hard drives especially because I strip them down to just the aluminum housing...

Depends on your area. Mainly metals pay. Aluminum, steel, copper, brass, insulated wires. Someplaces take electonic items like ram sticks, motherboards, any type of peripheral boards. Some people gather the gold plated stuff together and sell to someone who recovers the gold from it. Some people even take the hard drive platters...those are aluminum that are plated in platinum(very very thin). Just got to find the right buyers. I even take in used wheel weights and bad car parts and scrap them for the metal content.

Now some places like Cali that you pay a deposit when you buy drinks in plastic bottles. You gather a bunch of those and can get the deposits back out of them.
