http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-LIBERTY-DOLLAR-MSRP-50-2013-SILVER-One-Troy-Ounce-999-Round-NLD-LD-DALA-Ag-/221195976550 So Dave Gillie was probably the biggest RCO for Nuthouse (and a good friend) now he's selling something 'similar.' As seen in the example, Lady Liberty is still Talena (Telle) Jay Presley, Bernie's longtime partner (Hawaii doesn't have common-law marriage.) Other design features are obviously the same (or highly similar.) So anyone can still get his Norfed fix with these babies... unless the minters get into problems with the Feds? The only name I see associated is a punk-noir filmmaker IT guy who got married virtually and works in the LA area (and an extensive experience w/ startups) I know nothing of the mint, which has a sparse webpage (no real info) to order the coins: http://newlibertydollar.com/ Guessing this hippie dude just contracted Mulligan or someone else to produce the rounds. Price seems to be ~$40., a 33% premium (not outrageous if the quality is great) but again - I find the Lady Liberty design dull. Anyone else waiting for the Alpaca and Bee coins? LOL
You're welcome, John14! Dave Gillie is offerring a $10 discount and his (bulk-rate? teaser discount?) is now ~$41. At the higher (retail?) rate, the "Minter" guy is totally legit - he breeds llama and bees lol Seriously, I would trust him on the karma count even if that premium seems high. He probably pays someone to box & send, etc.
John14; Did you do a search of the phone #? That 123 # is a scam. Do a search on google or Yahoo with the entire phone number.
Hmmm...interesting. The contact number is 123-456-7890...but they don't collect any money until after you contact them. All they have at this point is your registration information (Name, address, phone, email). The phone number is obviously not correct (or default). I'm not sure what the "scam" is.
Yep, noticed that on the main site. Got mine from the bay, was cheaper than on the site with free shipping.
I don't know what you mean. Where did you see this number? (Even so, numbers flip. An unrelated tel# complaint from 2006 is totally irrelevant.) Trust-but-verify YES, but don't lose your marbles in the process. The site registrant (26-jun-2012) is totally legit: his CV is public for all the world to see. Dude's a CLASSIC libertarian. I would also not assume alpaca farmers/bee-keepers are "scammers"... do you people really think everyone's a thief or fraud??? That's sad. He even shows the world what color car he drives! Are you this honest, lol
I agree it's fair & prudent to wonder about online site purchasing. Scams DO exist, certainly. Caveat emptor. But at what point does Caution actually slip into Paranoia, become totally irrational? When it's wildly inconsistent, divorced from common-sense, wrong-headed kooky... right? Consider the fact that Bernie Notthouse was proven a fraudster in many, many ways: he's a convicted criminal. This is not debatable. But that FACT doesn't stop anyone here from happily trading his product online with complete strangers, right? o.k., so scruples here are loosey-goosey and we do trust strangers after all. Or mostly, anyway. So: why would anyone here assume "New Liberty Dollars" are a scam? Please help me to understand this, an apparent double-standard. I've posted enough about the dude, Google "Free Liberty Dollars" In your mind, what is the likelihood a website coin scammer would share (not only his entire adult life/professional work experience & very personal photos, but also) that he drives a purple car, farms alapacas & keeps bees? (And it took me less than 45 seconds to find that info, after whois lookup, I couldn't make this up if I tried!) Call me gullible, but I put that particular profile 'Scam Risk' at about ZERO, honestly. But other people didn't see that, obviously. Instead, in that website they see a trap, a con! Fair enough. Can you be more specific, why? Is the vacant website itself too spooky? Is that blank template a red flag to bullion buyers? Something else, worrying? (IMO, inattention to personal touch is exactly what I'd expect from a webstore owned by a serious nerd/quirky tech type w/unusual and solitary hobbies.) I'm not telling ANYONE to buy ANYTHING anywhere, I'm only asking how folks form opinions about and understand 'safe buying' stuff like Norfeds online.
Oh... I thought you were telling me to buy some Juan... LOL  Here is the site that has the fishy phone number http://newlibertydollar.com/ And here is part of their email response to me (names / emails left out) "Thank you for interest and for contacting us at New Liberty Dollar. In order to purchase New Liberty Dollar silver pieces, it is important that we be sure of a few things before you can become a qualified purchaser by answering a few quick questions. Please feel welcome to reply by email or web. Do you understand that the New Liberty Dollar is 1 troy ounce .999 fine silver private issue silver piece medallion, and not any government issued coin? Do you understand that the Legal Tender law, which requires that Federal Reserve Notes be accepted as payment for all debts public and private do not apply to these New Liberty Dollars and that the value of New Liberty Dollars does not depend on any such law enforcing their value, but rather on their intrinsic value as an item of beauty and utility? Do you understand that silver pieces such as these New Liberty Dollars may also have numismatic, artistic, sentimental, historic, or other value above and beyond the value of the bullion used to make the New Liberty Dollar. Do you understand that any exchange of the New Liberty Dollars be agreed by all parties involved in the exchange as an exercise of citizens' constitutional right to contract? Do you understand that the MSRP emblazoned on the New Liberty Dollar is a Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price and that individual retailers may price or exchange them at a lower or much higher value and that this is in no way controlled or controllable by the manufacturer. Please also understand that we are not yet formally open for retail business and are primarily handling bulk to wholesale distributors. You may find that small quantities more easily acquired on eBay or elsewhere. Thank you for your interest in New Liberty Dollars. We look forward to working with you."
John14- Yes I saw that page ... I missed the tel# and I still am. What else is on the page-I-am-not-seeing lol (LINK, please.) I do wonder if "Currency" and "Dollars" and "$" will prove problematic for this outfit ("we") as with Norfeds; otherwise, the NLD disclosure seems fair & appropriate to me.
You see the phone number after you place an order. I did not copy that msg from their main site, copied from an email after I placed an order. - I can't believe you haven't ordered any of these Juan.
There seem to be quite a few of these new "Norfed" dollars on eBay...even some Buy It Now for $46 shipped....
Good on ya' mate! :thumb: Yep, great looking rounds but I prefer the real ones or the ones now known as "counterfeits." Nuff said, on that subject tho!! There's all kinds of Norfeds on the bay, new old and everything inbetween. The 2008 Ron Paul Coppers that were minted by BVNH are supposed to be the collectible ones because not too many were minted. In 2007 when the feds raided BVNH and his facilities, they took over 60,000 Ron Paul Coppers. As a result, there wasn't that many more minted and they aren't "counterfeits" so you can collect them without hiding about it. The historical paperwork, not the silver certificates but the business cards, brochures and all that stuff is gonna be worth the dollars, jmho.
I was kind of shocked to hear about the NLD. Especially when I read Gillies auction ad on ebay, at the bottom it said, "intended to be used as currency." I thought to myself, didn't they learn anything? I don't see how these are new other than the actual word itself, and "Right to contract" in place of Trust in God.
What I don't understand is that a token is intended to be used as currency at whatever place of business accepts them. So what is the difference between Liberty Dollars and tokens?
