I have some gold cufflinks and it says "gold filled" on the box. It means gold plated. I don't know why they call that gold filled. The gold is on the outside.
If you think yours just has gold on the outside
then the value is quite a bit less than what you are hearing.
One test a dealer made on some gold filled earings I sold was this:
He took a small file and cut through the earings outer layer. That exposed the base metal underneath.

    200 mg is .2 grams

And then there is Carob which is artificial chocolate.

And the first thing you have to do is get an accurate weight on the cufflinks. 8 oz for the pair would be like have four double eagles attached to each wrist. SOme people like to show off some bling but you are talking Mr T cufflinks here. (And I just showed my age)

So, from my personal point of view, get an ugly girl to marry you!

Chris, don't forget I'm still recovering from my surgery and on a lot of meds! :) And yes I know what carrots are! LOL
    - I know about gold, but nothing about gems. - At the mall by my home there are several jewelers (Zales, Kays, Jerrods, ect..). There is one store that sells the "Gangsta" jewelery like huge figuro chains, hollow nugget rings that weigh less than a US dime. All their stuff is 10k, and the head "Gangsta" told me that 10k is the lowest grade of gold in the US. Does that mean that these cuff links are foriegn?

They are a gift from a British company

I thought something like that. - I used to wear cufflinks alot at work, but find it's hard to write with them on. Still keep some for charity dinners, weddings, and special events. - What design are on the cufflinks you have? Can you posts some pics? - Have you considered listing them for trade? Are you more interested in the money, or is there a coin you are trying to get for the cufflinks?

Do you have a picture? If so, post them in the for sale section of the forum. Probably get more $ from someone who likes cufflinks versus a "We Buy Gold" place. (These seem to be popping up everywhere )

Most cuff links weigh 3 or 4 grams each, making the pair worth about $150 max. A good shop would offer about 70% of that, so expect about a $100 or so (with a total weight of 8 grams).

For jewelry and watch gold "9k" is more typically British, no??
If whatever is NICE (I don't know... Tiffany?) artisanal or antique then you really ought to get a premium for that too.
But not from a pawn; go to a better vintage shop or specialist dealer instead.
In store, dealers might only offer 1/3rd that, be firm. Avoid store credit unless you want to lose more on markup too (or, really want to trade. )

Obv, look on eBay for the same item and net -13% for some idea of mkt value first.
    For example: didn't sell @ $160. - 13% = ~$140.

Store credit is not cash... $250 credit is probably worth considerably less than $100 cash.

John, I don't know that much about gold jewelry either. FWIW, some "gold" jewelry like necklaces and bracelets will be marked 10K or 14K on the clasp, but the clasp is the only thing that is really gold. It's a common ploy that has been used for decades to mislead people.
