Depends on the thickness of the hair. Not much silver there.

I definitely wouldn't pay a premium for 35% silver. Buy 90% at spot or the same premium as the nickels if you can.

I wouldn't pay even spot for a well circulated War Nickel. You should be able to get them a bit lower than spot because of the low silver content. War Nickels are one of my favorite coins, but I search through rolls for them so I can buy them for .05 :D

Agreed. If you are buying for bullion value and not collector value always buy the 90% coins. They will also be easier to sell when that time comes in the future and are in better overall demand as it is.

40% Kennedys sell like hotcakes on eBay though, but it's a bigger coin, so you're still getting more silver - a little less than a 90% quarter.

The only way to buy War nickels is to get them in rolls. I would never buy them for bullion.

That's pretty good. A hundred is worth $180 melt today.

That is about a ~3% premium. You could get .999 silver for that.

    +1

The question isn't so much the silver as the market interest.

A big bullion shop out my way is highly competitive on most things, but on war nickels, they are down right terrible. They ask close to spot and then pay half that...it's the item with the biggest spread in the shop.

No...don't buy something that has potential for issues like that. Go for the 90% as others state or search the rolls as a cheap man's kind of lottery.

I wouldn't buy war nickels for bullion. I think they'd be harder to sell versus 90%.

Silver is not silver. Is an ASE the same as a generic round? Are there no costs to refine impure silver?

Except for the fees that ruin your profit.

I am just saying if you can get any silver at a good price get it. If your looking for a quick profit then maybey war nickels is not the best way to go. but you'll never be stuck with it as long as it has some silver in it . just like any silver its going to be priced by the market price you might make a profit or you might be out of luck.
