Why not make it a gram or even a single troy grain then? BECAUSE THIS WILL ANGER THE TEA-PARTIERS. Sun Tzu asks, why whack a hornet's nest?

otoh, people buying guns and gold can grasp a monster coin concept. Make it big, call it 'The Reagan' ; Waldenites look like panty-waist snivellers, in pathetic opposition.

And former Mint Director Philip Diehl has spoken! http://pragcap.com/philip-diehl-for...dresses-confusion-over-the-platinum-coin-idea

I think a normal sized coin would do the trick, and there isn't any need to tie it to a particular political party. The proposal in any case has been educational.

Yesterday you told us that you were working for a cell phone company. What gives?
I really don't think that that is the reason why YOU don't have a job.

While it is impossible to prove this for a single individual, when taken together it is the reason for millions of unemployed people, and that is the real point.

Platinum is UP ~2% today; Gold +0.75% and SP500 -0.3%.

PPLT is benefiting from this buzz, I imagine.

"Say! ...is that a trillion dollar coin in your pocket, or are you just glad to see me?" :luckyguy:

Hasn't this been beaten to death already? It's an interesting idea, until you start to think about it and realize how ridiculous it is. It's amazing this was ever seriously discussed in the first place. By introducing an additional trillion dollars to the money supply, whether it's paper or on a coin, it would just devalue the dollar and create more inflation. You'd think the secretary of the treasury would be able to figure out that much, but we're talking about a guy who doesn't know how to do his own taxes lol, so maybe not.
