The French make some of the most beautiful coins. I love 'em!

Derick, the profile on that 5 sucres is pretty unique.

Antonio José de Sucre was a Venezuelan independence leader and one of Simón Bolívar's generals. From this picture, the nose seems sligtly exaggerated on the coin. What do you think?

The nose is slightly exaggerated on the coin, but that is what makes it very cool, that nose and those sideburns.

It does, the lips are also little on the thin side. Look at this nice one. One of my metallurgist bought it last week. Thought I would like it, but had to pay him back. I did like it.

Christian, he did. The profile link looks more like the coin.

Wish I could remember where, but I recently saw the entire set in proof (with original case) offered for $160 somewhere online. Set, as in 4 silver coins. The box was trapezoid shaped with red felt. Very cool but a wee bit too modern for my tastes.

Yes, but the sideburns are an exact match.

My guess would be fine, perhaps very fine at a stretch, but for 499 years old I think it's in great shape!

Here is a coin from Ecquador with Sucre image on it. Pretty close to when he was alive "identical to the painting", so this is probaly a true image. [IMG][IMG]

Nice specimen. The series was minted in Santiago, Lima and Heaton with some dates rare.
