Recently passed up on a chance to get Russian ballerina 1993 set 1/10,1/20 oz gold and 2 1 oz Silver coins for $340 because i didn't see all the pictures and completely overlooked the 2 silver coins....
Last week I passed up a complete set of 1995-96 Olympic Commems in proof for $300 in the 8 place display set. I already have a few and didn't want to drop that much on what amounts to 6 oz of silver. Went back last night and it is gone.
Yesterday at the local show there was a guy offering $28 each for common Peace dollars. I sorted out 30 or so to take over today -- 11% over melt with no fees is a better deal than I've encountered elsewhere -- but his table was empty. Guess he got as many as he wanted yesterday. Oh, well -- maybe silver will go up some more.
jeffB- I think I understand what you mean. "Offering" =Bid/Wanted to Buy @ $28? A 11% Bid premium, US junk Ag coin over Spot, you mean? (I've understood "melt" to properly refer to the refiners' Bid price; but in the vernacular, POS gets conflated/substituted.)
There is a Canadian coin from 2011 with a lady bug on a flower. Could have bought from the mint for about $120, it is now going for over $700! It had 17 bidders on e-bay so it sold. Oh there have been so many times I kicked myself.
Yeah, sorry for the conflation. Specifically, like many here, I use http://www.coinflation.com/ as a reference for silver value in coins, recognizing that I can rarely sell 90% at that value (and that there's a further discount on the harder-to-refine 40% and 35% issues). The dealer was offering to buy Peace dollars (VG or better) at $28 each, and Morgans (VG or better) at $29 each.
