They do say $1.00 on the back of them. They have to have a legal tender on the coin, just like the AGE's have a $50 tender on them.

Yes. That is the legal tender of the coin. I am sure some would walk into a 7-11 with an AGE to buy a Slurpee and nachos, and walk out with $45 in cash change.

As the others have stated they "are" legal tender but to use them as such would be plain stupid. However with states readying to pass the bullion bill (can never remember the actual name) making bullion legal tender at that days spot it would be even more stupid to use them for face value.

Norfed attempted to make a viable silver, gold and copper coinage but of course the feds killed that.

Even though they are legal, and even though it would be stupid, you may have a hard time spending them. I've had problems spending half dollar coins and even problems at the bank when some young tellers were unfamiliar with the coins and had to call a manager.

I think this is the key. Remember...just because it's "legal tender" doesn't mean a business must accept them. I'll bet most places wouldn't recognize them and would not accept them.

Yes, they are legal tender. But it would unwise to spend them as such.

I would think, without going into a full blown legal thesis, that because the ASE is legal tender, it must be accepted as payment if tendered.

I think it's a HUGE stretch to call it viable. Essentially, they ended up working like gift cards, except a lot heavier, and they could lose value. (Arguments can be made that they would gain value, but in practice, most accepting businesses would take them at face only when spot was higher.)

And if you think that...you are completely wrong. Any business can refuse any form of payment they choose. For example, today I went to Subway and had a sandwich for lunch. On the door it says they "only accept bills $20 or less." If I had handed them a $50, they would have refused it and that is their right.

I gotta ask, why would anyone be so stupid as to spend a $34.00 silver ASE for $1.00?? The idiots on youtube don't count because they have ulterior motives and are crying out for attention. :D

IMHO, anyone who knew what they had wouldn't. It happens sometimes because people don't know what they have...or they stole it and want to make a quick buck (literally).
