title says it all, is tibetan silver worth saving? or worth anything? so i guess i would like to know if it is one of those " silver is silver" thoughts?
No. I do not think it actually contains any silver at all. In fact, I vaguely remember reading somewhere that it may actually be toxic. TC
There doesn't seem to be much Tibetian silver in the US (or many Tibetian coins of any sort). Since so much of the supply of world coins exists in the US there might not be much if demand ever materializes. This will happen in the long term but it could be a very long time. I'd be inclined to err on the side of saving it providing it's not something quite common in lower grades. If the numismatic value is low and the melt value high then you might as well destroy it. A lot of it already has a good premium since there is a little demand.
Yes, I thought the OP was referring to Tibetan Silver used in jewelry/bullion. http://chemistry.about.com/od/jewelrychemistry/f/What-Is-Tibetan-Silver.htm TC
No, the term Tibetan Silver isn't used to describe silver coinage it's the name of a low quality alloy allegedly containing a very minuscule amount of silver and found more often to contain toxic impurities (lead, cadmium....).
