Thanks for turning me on to Silver Towne - just bought a couple of the PCGS PR70 2012s sets at $239 each.
Ordered PCGS70 REd Flag set for $239.00 + 14.95 s/h. The different designations are becoming overwhelming: signed by John M. Mercanti, Red Flag, etc. What's the point? By the time I had checked out PCGS sets were no longer available. Cannot find these coins at APMEX & Modern Coin Mart. These are my first PCGS slabs all others are NGC.
^ Yeah the sets were going to go fast. Silvertowne sent out that offer to everyone on its mailing list.
the cost for dealers is around $135.00 a set. 5% discount for them from the mint. they profited 33% by selling $180.00. good investment. it will depend on collectors to clear all those sets. so the next retail price will go up to $300.00. cause $180.00 will be the floor base by then. if not. then this set will collapse.
I just ordered a set of NGC 70s Early Release and a set of PCGS 70s First Strike from SilverTowne. Once my order goes through, then I will most likely cancel my order of 3 at the Mint. thanks for the silvertowne tip
Do any of the special labels eg, signed by John M. Mercanti, NGC San Francisco Label, NGC Trolley Label, FS PCGS Flag Label, FS PCGS Flag Label, ER NGC Trolley Label mean anything special? All of these different labels sell for the same price. does it matter, collector or investment wise, which lable is bought if all are the same 70 grade? http://www.silvertowne.com/c-519-2012-silver-american-eagle-san-francisco-2-coin-proof-sets.aspx
^ Not really no. It's the new stupidity (in my opinion) that the TPGs have come up with. Same coin, but multiple labels to collect.
As long as it's ER/FS I think you're GTG. However, I would not get the trolley just IMHO. ETA: oh, and I don't think they're stupid, really. I actually like the look of the different options. The only negative I see is if you were trying to buy already graded individuals to make a set...now there's one more thing to have to match up.
The set is the thing, wherein in you'll catch the conscience of the collector........ [if Hamlet were a collector of ASE's]
Yeah I guess that makes sense, if you're getting it from the perspective of "customizing" your coin label versus trying to collect all of them as different variety types.
Oh, I have a PCGS flag slabs, but it does look kind of cool to put the TPG info on the back, a'la the bridge/Mercanti. What if PCGS switched their SOP and quit offering the flag? Everyone would scream. But since they offer both, what's not to like about more choices? rant off
I'm gonna definately order the PR70 set on Silver Town, i'm just torn on the US Flag or the signed bridge label. Opinions?
I may be wrong, but I think the flag is traditional PCGS, whereas Mercanti got a lot of attention due to the 2011 set. I think the right answer is: buy both. Enjoy them, then sell one if you must!
