They priced it too high for 650k. I'm going with 250k. Everyone is using their money to pay for summer vacation. Some lucky ones will get it as a gift for Father's Day. The collectors who can afford it will buy one or more to complete our collections. With only 125k sold in the first week, I do not believe that it will top 300k.

All the Tv hucksters who will trout it as rarer than the 25th annv. sets regardless of mintage. Plus all the national sites (JMRC, L&C, littletons, paradise mint etc.) out there. Coupled with the silver investors/speculators. Finally the collectors and B&M dealers out there I'd say somewhere around 1996 silver eagle #'s about two million give or take a hundred thousand or two. That is if the mint actually keeps up with demand and ships things out on time.

A measly ~3,000 sets sold today. I feel silly for predicting 420,000 sets. I realize there will likely be a back-end rebound effect, but I don't see the total mintage coming in at more than 250,000. Just my guess.

Sales so far have averaged 16,067 per day. If that average holds (it most likely won't), total sales would be 465,957.

Figure out the average of the days minus day 1 and that would give you a more accurate figure~ I'm sticking to my guns on my original guess @ 333,500~

Question for all: How many of these sets have you already ordered and how many do you plan on ordering if you think the mintage is low in the last few days?

I haven't ordered any yet and may order up to 5 if sales remain low.

Sales are open until 5PM on the 5th. Sales counter is updated every day a 3PM.
If at 4PM sales are less than 200K, I may order some more of these.

  9. I ordered one set at noon on the first day. I will order no more. I have my eye on other things. TC

I went for 1 yesterday and added the regular w proof just to get it at 1 shipping price. I got 2 of the '06 and '11 sets but they were more limited.

None yet and I'm not sure regarding the second question. I keep getting distracted by other world bullion coins that are actually creative and interesting, as opposed to all of this redux crapola from the Mint.

It it were a private corporation, it'd probably be managed far better and would be putting out more of the kinds of things that treehugger and the rest of us really want to buy.

Be sure to save some money later this year for the not-yet revealed coin that will be regarded as the "be all and end all of U. S. Mint creativity" -- the D mintmark Proof Silver Eagle with the Buffalo Privy. Make sure you are the first on your block to have this first of a kind truly-innovative Mint product.

I revised my estimate from 750k at the announcement to 444k last week. I will probably order one or two within a week or so. Two if I feel especially nervous on that particular day about the mint's QC (e.g. scratch 'n' blem). I am not interested in waiting until the last day and hovering over the internet.
