I'm looking to get a belt buckle with a gold coin holder and would like your suggestions on what gold coin would look best as a belt buckle.

I'm also thinking about getting some other gold coin holding jewelery any suggestions?

"I'm looking to get a gold coin for a belt buckle so I can get mugged." J/K!!!

At $1,600 an ounce, I'd go for a replica or a Morgan dollar instead.

lol, nobody will even know I have it. it would be under my shirt. I want a real gold coin on my belt so that only I know I have 1600 dollars on me, and can sell it when I'm in need. the way I see it its way more safe to have a gold coin on your belt that nobody can see when getting mugged then having 1600 dollars cash in your wallet.

Understood. Then I'd go for the coolest looking one like a $20 Saint St Gaudens Double Eagle.

If the purpose is monetary security, then go with the cheapest 1 ounce coin you can find. Type doesn't matter. A Krugerrand might be suitable.

yes it is. but if I take my time, I can most likely find a nicer coins for a good price on sites like Kijiji or Craigslist.

also don't like krugerands because I heard some of them are lower purity then its listed as, in recent news they found some krugerands as low as 14k.
    plus theyre ugly coins.

I might get a Britannia, or mexican 50 peso coin(not the libertad) (love the eagle on the back) or maybe a Australian lunar (if I can find one near spot price)

or maybe a normal gold eagle,
"the super-high-whatever gold double eagle" is way over spot price for me.

Just remember that if you get a .999 or .9999 pure gold coin, it will be soft and easily damage or worn. That's why circulation gold coins were always mixed with a harder metal.

That would make quite a statement.

Use a 10 oz gold bar. A little weighty, but very flashy.

Personally, I would vote for any kind of non-numismatic coin pleases you. I say this since I would never wish to advocate a numismatic piece being irrevocably damaged in such a way.

Please do not place a real St Gaudens or other US gold coin in there, or even a 2009 UHR issue. Place a modern bullion coin, (AGE, maple leaf, whatever you feel like), in there. Too much of our numismatic heritage has already been destroyed by jewelry.

    Just my opinion.

Maybe get one that's already been used / damaged in jewelry.

One consideration you might want to have is to avoid the pure gold coins. Go with one made of crown gold such as the AGE, Krugerrand, Sovereign, etc. These would be less likely to be damaged considering the various uses for a belt.

Yes, please. There are lots of ex-jewelry pieces out there; please give one a new home, instead of letting it be sent to the melting pots while you make a new one.

I like that idea, but that's out of my price range.
