    "I'm a collector and not a flipper".

If all collectors get one, what need is there for a limit? What cachet (other than profit) is there to owning something from a limited edition?

So if you get what you need, what difference does it make how many more are out there?

So it really comes down to how much "your" coin is worth.

If you are worried about how many there are and what the are worth, or may be worth in the future, you're not a collector, you are a speculator, no better than the big retailers buying up hundreds and thousands of them. So don't try to convince me that you are a collector.

wanting to collect something rare makes me a NON COLLECTOR ? that makes no sense.

but I don't buy, collect,or invest in common bullion. so maybe thats my problem.

maybe I should say I'm a collector. just not a big ASE collector.

but you can call me what you want. its all good

Collector or Speculator? I think most of us eventually sell. So exactly how long must an acquisition be held? The flippers are well defined but isn't the collector also profit motivated? Many of the self proclaimed collectors here flipped the A25 and would jump at the chance to do it again. It's the nature of the beast. Everyone can just post their condemnation of me for sitting on my sealed A25s, but guess what? They are my private property and I will do as I please. And like everyone else who seeks value appreciation, we are all the same. It's just that some of us hit the jackpot.

    I'm an eclectic collector.

I kinda jump around with my collection. so I pick my battles.as far as ASEs I only have anniversary sets with a lower mintage.thats my crazy method.to each there own.

but for those who have a full set of ASEs then this set is perfect.

    +1 I agree

  8. I cannot believe that the Perth Mint is doing that with the Kookaburras. Imagine if the US Mint started to produce more of the 25th anniversary sets after the sell out last year  Prices have significantly dropped for the 25th anniversary set now but would have plummeted much sooner if they did that. I accept the fact that people differ in their reasons to buy coins. I plan on handing my collection over to my kids, so of course want it to have value in the future. So, I walk the fine line of buying what I like and enjoy now but also buying what I think will likely have some value for them in the future. Again, I really think value is demand driven. Supply could be one, but if nobody wants it who cares? I started a thread a few weeks ago about chasing limited mintage bullion and noted that it is hard to know what a limited mintage is anymore with so many limited gold and silver issues these days. I was recently eyeing a 2012 New Zealand proof dragon with a 2,500 mintage but decided against it because I did not like that it was gilded. I used the money to buy a 2 ounce 2012 Perth lunar dragon instead. I have convinced myself it was the better buy but only time will tell. TC

    TC,
I'm a firm believer in the A25. I expected this price drop immediately after Christmas. Since I was wrong only proves I underestimated it's popularity. I hope this next release happens with the rerun of the TV show, "Shark Week". This feeding frenzy will be nothing like the A25 but nevertheless all the impressive. I'm betting 725,000 will be sold during the one month availability and it will produce a greater demand for all ASEs. Let the good times roll.

That depends. Are ya in it for the quick money or do you want to take a chance and wait awhile? It could go up or it could go down but I don't think you'll ever loose money with theses.

You betcha. But I didn't flip for profit and pocket the earnings. Instead, I flipped to buy collector coins. In that way my collection helps to pay for itself.

I'd never condemn you. You've got a goal in mind and who am I to judge you?

The responses to my post are pretty hard to argue with, and they raise some good points.
They are making me look inward and will definitely effect my thoughts on the subject.
Thanks for showing me the other side of the coin. (pun intended)

I like that; it covers all of us regardless of our reason for obtaining coins.

Right on rickmp and thanks x115.
The TPGs are going to be all over these things like flys on honey. It won't be more than 2 weeks when perfect sets are available from their web sites. If they are smart they would keep the perfect population low, but that could ruin their credibility or the reputation of the San Fran Mint. All the perfect A25s will hold strong against these common S75s. Hey did I just guess the product code number?

You're absolutely right, if there's a large amount minted then there goes the "collectibility" factor. I really gotta ask, is the mint really thinking about the coin collectors or is the mint simply trying to make a mint? :D

Amen, brother! How dare the Mint try to make some money on their own items! Don't they know that is the job of those highly-respectable flippers and profiteers. Maybe someday the Mint will realize where its place in the grand scheme of things really should be.
