anyone know how many coins are in this series? so far this is the 4th coin.

 

That is really a shame. I have the previous coins (Maple Leaf, Canoe and Polar Bear) and really like them all. Why did they decide to ruin this series and include a Queenie coin in it? It's bad enough that smiling face has to be plastered on every Canadian coin anyway, but why on both sides on this coin? When is Canada going to realize the occupation is over?

To me, by saying "it is really a shame to have the Queen coin in it" implies that you have no respect to other people works / designs. Another sentence from your post above saying "When is Canada going to realize the occupation is over", also implies that you don't value other people opinion on how they govern themselves. Just because continental Americans (or the people of the 13 original colonies) decided to separate themselves from The Royalty, it doesn't mean that other countries have to do the same like Americans did. Let them be happy with whatever the people of Canada or the people of the Commonwealth nations decide how they live.

On another note, you have to remember that the Royal Mint Canada (RCM) is a Royal corporation. It is is a for-profit Crown Corporation with a mandate to produce circulation and non-circulation coins (for Canada and other countries), manage the domestic coinage system, and provide advice to the Minister of Finance on all matters related to coinage. It also extends to the production and marketing of bullion and related refinery products and services for profit. Legislation which establishes the Mint is clear that the corporation is to conduct its businesses "in anticipation of profit". That fundamental object has shaped the history of the Mint - (quoted from the RCM site). Therefore it is different to the US Mint where its act depends on the Representatives sitting in the Congress.

Yes; I need to apologize. My post was quite reactionary, as I really liked the theme of the $20 coins to this point. I just saw the upcoming coin as an unwelcome departure from the natural and environmental theme presented so far. As you say, they have every right to do what they want to do. I had hoped to collect the entire set, but I will not purchase the next coin. I think that is what really disturbed me most -- the fact there would now be a gap in my collection, by my own choice, of course.

Anyway; to each their own and I am sorry for any offense.

When is this going to be on sale? I can't find it on the website.

 

its not going to be on sale for a few months. I subscribed to this series, and I live in Canada so I'm the very few that will be the first ones to own them before they go on sale to the public.

 

Just like the original post, the email was sent on/around April 17th and says that the next coin will be released about 2 - 3 weeks from the email date. But I guess it may also take longer than the planned released date. I am sure that I and the rest of CTers who subscribe to these $20 for $20 will let everyone else know here at CT. Keep checking CT!

 

no the coin wont be released to the public in 2-3 weeks, it will be much longer. the royal canadian mint ships the coin to people who subscribed way before they release it to the public.

 

Has anyone seen the coin yet? It may not have two QEIIs on it.

 

the artwork for the coin is not released yet, but its a commenmortive for the queens 60th year of ruling ( diamond jubilee) so its most likely gonna have the queen on both sides

Well, if they're doing 3 designs this year, I'd think the 2nd would be coming out soon. June (halfway through the year) at the latest, I'd imagine. Of course, I don't know for sure.

EDIT: Actually, on here: http://www.mint.ca/store/product/product.jsp?itemId=prod1240001 , it says Spring and Fall 2012, so it should be coming out before summer.

I was looking at another forum and seems like some people in Ontario(where I live) already got the coin in the mail. as soon like they come I'll post a picture of them

thats a gross looking front part of the coin (old lady face). I love the back tho!
