so I'm just sitting here watching the Coin Vault scam show and they bought up some 2011 and 2012 (W) and (S) American silver eagles...
no mint marks just a piece of paper in a piece of plastic say it... but then I look on e-bay and I see some prices comparable to these on coin vault...
so...what's your opinions people? is this just crap?

I don't understand your question? why would you look on ebay instead of apmex, goldmart, provident?

what your concern is the validity of the claim... that there from those mints.. ok here how it work when the shipped from the set mints in there monster green boxes they have identity tag stating there from those mints on them... if you remove those label before hand you cannot certify those coin even tho there from the Philly mint or san francisco mint.. because the security seals have been broken

they are just a marketing gimmick to help out the grading Co and the mass retailer who gets a huge discount at NGC. as to the W with no MM, well they were all made there for many years so it's standard bullion. as to the S no MM, I am not going to pay extra because it came in a different box at one time but BTW it's not in that box anymore and the coin is identical to all the others.

Unless there is some physical difference in the coin, a plain ASE is a plain ASE, no mater where it was minted. If you want to collect slabs, then the choice is endless. I can see some people's desire to collect certified coins, first editions, non S (S) and so on. Collecting is collecting and it's all a matter of personal taste and what ever makes you happy.

    Difference between 2012 (W) and 2012 (S) ASE

Talking about confusion, I just ordered and received one of each of the 2012 (W) and 2012 (S) ASE PCGS MS69 from eBay and tried to show my wife the difference between the two, thinking that the 2012(W) was the one with a W mint mark and 2012 (S) with not mint mark (because I did hear about this ASE being made in the San Francisco mint but without a S mint mark). To my surprise I could not find any W mint marks on either one. I then found out neither of them have any mint marks and also the 2012W burnished ASE has not been released yet. I examined both the 2012 (W) and 2012 (S) ASE and did find some major difference between their finishes of them. 2012 (S) ASE has a matt finish that is similar to that of the burnished ASE while the 2012 (W) has just a regular bullion ASE look. Hope this helps.

that difference is just from the coin dies and may change with the dies as the year goes on. I don't know if you can count on that as a real indicator of mint location. to me it it doesn't have a mint mark it's the same coin. the labels are just a way to boost sales for the marketers and the grading co. no thanks

As I understand it, the "regular bullion ASE" was included in the 25th Anniv set, and to my knowledge is the only way to obtain that coin. However, they also put the W on the ASE proof coins as well. To many where the coin was minted may not matter, but to true collectors it does because of the certain number of mintages from each Mint.
