That's neat, but what does that have to do with a limited production item that is based off the ASE? Again, it's a niche item that people are paying dearly for vs an item that the US Mint punched out just south of 40million of last year. It's great that you're a stacker, but what is the point of trying to antogonize the posters in this thread? Are you upset that you were unable to order at issue price and now have to pay for them in the secondary market? Is that what this is all about?
The demand isn't ridiculous, that's a false perception based on hype, happens in pretty much any hobby and every message board......You're always looking for the latest and greatest and the speculation causes the price to be overinflated, happens in all commodities trading, only when the speculation is over does the true laws of supply and demand find the true price.
So what is happening right now with the price of these is not real? You should tell that to the people writing the checks for them, because I'm pretty sure the money is actually coming out of thier pockets to pay for them. Speculation may be high right now, but it's been that way for a while. It appears to me that you're a bit upset by this speculation, but the fact remains that the market is paying those prices right now, whether you like it or not, it's a fact. Now if you'd be so kind as to answer the questions I asked in my previous post, I'd be very happy.
My reason for posting in this thread is because the replies where the same when I told the people what would happen with the ATB pucks, many of the same people that post in this thread. I would never pay $300 for five ounces of modern day silver rounds.
Good for you, but the facts remain that many people did. So what it your real point? You plan on waiting to buy yours in hopes you get them for less than what they're selling for now, or close to issue price? I have some bad news for you, it would take a whole lot of luck to buy the 2010 bullion ATBs for what the APs were selling for originally. So tell us your actual point of posting on here, instead of you spouting that you're a genius. One other thing, am I stalking a lion here?
That and just flat out embarrassed that they're coin collectors.....I keep to myself about my holding even to the people who know I'm a stacker....The only reason I'm learning about numismatics is because I've made a few good finds at spot price over the years, more luck than anything....I got a few Carson City coins for melt price and bought a bunch of pandas when they still sold for just around melt, also have found a few seated libertys in good condition for junk prices
In 2010 silver was under $20 for most of the year, the reason those coins are keeping value is because of silver price, not numismatic demand.....and no I don't want any of the 25th coins, two of them are pretty but not pretty enough for a silver invested to pay the premium to get them...No modern bullion is that pretty to me
You're right about the 'pucks' but you must admit one thing, collectors of ASE's have been around a lot longer than the folks that opted to collect/invest in the large, heavier, hunks of silver. I'd also say ( in the understatement of the year) that the collector base for ASE's is much more widespread........
While silver was under $20/oz or most of 2010, it wasn't when those were released. It's pretty obvious to me that you do like the set, but the price scares you off and you're wishining they'd come down so you could own them. You don't wear jealous very well.
From what I have seen on these sets, graded to original packaging, the prices seem to be all over the place. Locally I've seen this set sell for as little as 500.00 to over a grand PR 70. I think too many dealers/collectors are just slapping any ol' price on hoping for the "big sell" I'd buy a set if it wasn't so darned expensive. I missed out when it came out initially. Sadly enough
This happend to me too. What I did was pick up just the S Mint and Reverse Proof early enough so my cost was around $425 plus shipping. That was as close to the 5 coin release price as I could get. But they represent the core value of this set to begin with. I have already purchased one missing coin, direct from the mint, without having to pay the set premium for it. As the set price now rises, the two principle coins I purchased, continue to increase as the greater part of the overall set price. It is a good way to get a complete mintage without paying top dollar for the less valuable coins. If you are a collector first and an investor second, this may be a viable alternative for you.
I think he's just a cheap skate that expects to buy every coin at melt value (or less) and doesnt understand that there's 6 billion people out there. Or that a small percentage of 6 billion is still a large number (of coin collectors) who compete with each other and will pay numismatic premiums for what they collect. If anything comes out that sells at a premium, we can expect Guano's stance to be that it is over inflated, every time, and sometimes the price goes down. He's like the broken clock that's right twice a day as opposed to providing unique insight into anything. Just my opinion. I try to stay out of this thread.
Always a pleasure to hang here, too. Hope all is well for all here. Back to the intent of this thread...I was at a coin show in Tucson during the end of Jan, the quotes were pretty consistent. Unopened boxes with 5 sets at $4200, ungraded single sets at $850, MS69 at $900 and MS70 were in the $1200 to $1500 range. I think they got word what each other was selling them for and stuck to the same structure. Checking out the LCS's in town, I couldn't find them for sale, and I checked out 4 of them. A few shops told me they got them and sold almost immediately. Not that any of you need a refresher, but several online dealers were offering over $400 on release for unopened boxes of sets per set, then they began to up that offer when they weren't getting enough, ebay went nuts on the unopened boxes of 5, upwards of mid $4000 range. I haven't checked in a while, so not sure where they are at now. I was thinking the prices would stabilize lower than the $850 per set for ungraded and then drop down a bit, but I haven't seen it....yet...and might not... One other thing...to insure the price won't drop I'm not planning to buy any, but when I'm ready to buy I'll let you all know it's time to sell, as I'm sure that right after I buy a set the market value will plummet...my gift to all of you.
