First off hello from a first time poster. I just found what may be a great find at a local pawn shop. Its a Red Book 1947 edition first print. There is a signature on the first blank page and some markings on some of the pages where the original owner may have marked which coins he/she collected. Take a look and let me know what you guys think the condition of this book is. Thanks in advance!

Thanks! I actually noticed a few older red books at this particular pawn shop a few weeks back but didn't realize that they may be worth something. So when I found out that older additions especially the first few could be worth a pretty penny I went back and to my surprise there it was!

I've heard that the first edition can be pretty valuable, but the notations might knock it down some.

This could be an amazing find, I've heard of these going for upwards of $500! There is only one RedBook that is scarcer, the 1987 ANA 40th Anniversary edition, check and see if he has that one!

Very nice find. FWIW the Red Book also has a price guide on these. Depending on condition, like Chris said, the first edition can go up in the 4 figures.

Anyone able to tell me from these pics what the condition seems to be in? VG, F, VF etc?

You need to read "A Guide Book of The Official Red Book of United States Coins"

Geeze, you could get into a continual loop, by then getting " Guide Book on a Guide book of a Guide book of Red Books.
Then a Guide Book of Slabbed Guide books of Red Books.
    :D
I have several old Red Books, I wonder if I should get them slabbed

I do have a 2011 Red book and I know it says that a First edition, first print Red book can go for $325 for VG condition, $750 for F and as high as $1300 for VF. What would you estimate the condition is of this book? I think it has to be in Very Good condition at the very least. But then again I am not an expert on books and their condition. Anyone with book condition knowledge know? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
