2006 $50 Buffalo NGC MS 70 First Strike. What's it worth?

A local pawn shop has this 2006 $50 Buffalo NGC MS 70 First Strike for sale. I see them selling on ebay for $1,800 to $1,900. There seems to be a lot of them with the same slab, score and fisrt strike designation. Is this one to go after? If so, what would be a good price to offer? Not knowing what they paid, but assuming they got it for a steep discount, do you think this might be a chance to a get discount on this coin? They have no price and have asked for an offer.

I have only bought Krugerrands in the past, so this would be my first Buffalo if I can make a deal. I generally like to buy coins that are in Bu condition and are easy to off load when the time comes. This seems to fit both. It is BU and from what I can see it will be easy to off load if or when the time comes. Your thoughts / feedback are appreciated.

1800 sounds OK. what does the pawn shop want? I would lowball them. how many people who go into pawnshops have that much money?

Start with an offer at melt value (right now $1656.40). Know it before going in.

The pawn shop has no price and is asking for an offer. I like the idea of offering melt. Does $1,800 to $1,900 sound like the right price one would pay from a typical coin shop for this coin? Is this a coin to go after, especially at melt? And is it an easy coin to off load if / when you have to in the future?

very easy to offload. it isn't a coinshop, it's a pawnshop. offer melt and walk away

That is a 2006 Bullion Buffalo. I paid $800 for a Proof one from the mint in 2006. So I would says it is worth paying spot. Plus maybe $30 since it is slabbed.

    +1

I very much doubt that the pawn shop loaned/paid any more than $800 for it.
I'd bet they'd jump at an offer of melt.

Let us know how you make out.

I was thinking of offering them 5% back of melt. Like was mentioned, who else is walking in with that much cash. The worse they can say is no. I would rather go a little low at first and get a counter than not go low enough and have them accept it right away. I want to try to get the best deal possible.

It is a great coin! You will have absolutely no problem ever unloading it. Since you don't know when the pawnshop acquired it, it is hard to know what they have in it. With the latest PM craze we are in, I would say it is a recently acquired piece and probably paid 10-20% below melt.

Start your offer at melt with cash in hand. Be willing to walk on that. BUT in the end, I would be willing to offer $1700.

Just my luck! They sold the coin right before I showed up. Unreal.

    I appreciate the help anyways.
