I really don't think these are going to be "quick flip" items...it'll likely take a year or two for sales to rebound and for folks to realize the significance of what's happened (imho).

Ok...these look like the FINAL numbers for the 2010 Silver Proof set (drum roll....)

    585,414 :hail:

That's a new KEY DATE by 94,570 :hail:

Now the question is...will that number stand? ...or will the 2011 Silver Proof set post another record yet?

Silver Proof set sales as of 04 January, 2012...

2010 Silver Proof Set sales: 1,746for a total of 585,414*
2011 Silver Proof Set sales: 4,573 for a total of 542,448
    * Sold Out

The lowest mintage of any modern Silver Proof set was/is 2010 (585,414).
The average weekly sales figures for 2011 sets needed by the end of February 2011 (8 weeks left? *) to equal that mintage are...

    2011 Silver Proof Set: (585,414 – 542,448) / 8 = 5,371

    * Who knows?...this is just a guess based on the vague information we get from the US Mint web site...it could be longer.

Note: The Mint has already lowered the prices of many silver products since the first of the year...but not the 2011 Silver Proof sets. This could lead to lower sales due to the anticipation that the 2012 Silver Proof sets will be similarly reduced in price.

This will be VERY interesting to watch!!

Where does he get all those wonderful pictures?

So, interesting indeed! I was up in Salem, Oregon today at a coin shop, and they're asking $89.95 for the 2010 Silver Proof Set. Asking $89.95 for the 2011 also. 25 miles south in Albany, the asking price is $69.95. This very moment, there's one on EBAY that's sitting on $45.33 with 1 hr. 21 min to go. Talked to a collector friend today and he said the mint schedule has been posted thru February but that is not necessarily "cut in stone". And that the mint could insert the 2011 Silver Proof Set sales deadline into the schedule before the end of February or any other product of their choosing. I ask him how he knew that. He said, "Oh they can". UMMM...............OK. He's an 86 yr. old collector and a friend. I wasn't going to challenge what he said. Anyway, he just might be right. But, as Yakpoo says (and I love it when he says it) WHO KNOWS!

Your friend is absolutely CORRECT!! The Mint can (and often does) anything it likes with little or no notice to the collector community. :headbang::headbang::headbang:

You are correct, sir! Since no one commented on the Silver Proof sets, I felt compelled to throw one out there. :D

Why do you think the 2011 silver proof set will be the end of Feb. Look at the 2010,

They don't stop selling until the end of Dec. 2011.
So the 2011 silver proof set will be ending on Dec. 2012 as 2010 set.
    Am I right?????

You can go back to Page 13 Post#185 of this thread and that should be of some help. Basically the 2010 and 2011 sets sales have been overlapping each other. This has been a first. Now the mint has changed up the sales schedule so that when one year newly becomes available, the previous year is discontinued. I know the answer to this, but it's hard to put into words so I hope this helps. Yakpoo and others will see this and probably add to it to make it a little more clearer.

It's like Christmas over here. Got my sets from the mint and picked up this '92 for less than 50 cents over melt.

Nice little article regarding the 2011 Silver Proof Set and discussing when the 2012 set may be released. MintNewsBlog.com

I would have copied over the URL, but don't know how to. (DUH)
Edit: Got help from CoinTalk member.

These sets are wonderful and I've been getting a couple from the mint since 2006. I'm now looking at going back and picking up previous years. What is the difference between a Silver Proof Set and a Silver Premier Proof Set? Best I can make out on line is a slightly better mounting board, maybe?

Thats it, just a fancy felt/velvet display case. No difference in the actual coins. I see no point in paying a premium for the case over the standard set.

That's what I thought, thanks for the confirmation. I've been checking mintages and prices on previous years and can't figure out why the 1999 is so highly valued. The 2010 set has over 200,000 less issues. 1993 through 1997 has anywhere between 15,000 to 100,000 less issues and the same can be said for 2008 and 2009. I can't wait to see where 2011 lands. I think we're in the middle of a series of key years like the ASE's were in the 90's.

Well, I got the 2011 silver quarter proof set and the mint set for Christmas, so here's hoping that the year's mintage for these two sets come out low.

The new sales figures should be out today or tomorrow and Yakpoo will be "All over that". Stay tuned to this thread for his latest report.
