25th Anniversary Silver Eagle Set PRICE WATCH

Ended at $687 with $20 shipping. I was just thinking this morning that I think we have found the floor for ungraded sets, and it is between $600 and $650. I think they are starting to come back up now with several ending close to or over $700. If you are holding out to buy, I think now is the time to do it.

I learned something new. I clicked on link and saw the ending bid was $687.69. vs $650 I last saw and 2 more bids

This is what I would like too know. If there are 100,000 25th anv sets, and 50,000 people opened them from the mint, doesn't that make the 3 [NON KEY COINS] valuable? If you opened your set then in my opinion these 3 coins revert back to actual minted numbers, not part of the 100,000. And really look at population #'s on some of these graded coins. You can buy a 2011 MS70 for 69.00. But the same MS70 from [set] is 107.00 to 169.00. Would like some input here. Thanks

The 3 NON Key coins could only get graded as coming from the 25th aniv set if they were sent in to the TPGs along with the 2 Key coins in a US Mint original sealed shipping box (un-opened). That is how they get their special graded labels.

 

When it comes to ebay prices,I understand supply and demand also people trying to make a quick
dollar but there's no way I would sell at these prices. some of my NGC 69 grades look as good as
my 70's then I've got a 69 that should be a 67, but I still would'nt sell for what several are letting
graded anniversary eagles go for!

 

I think the supply is going down. There were 36 pages the other day. Now I'm only seeing 20 pages on ebay. But most are not sets. Most of it is individual coins, people dumping the empty boxes, etc.. There's probably only about 4 or 5 full pages of actual graded and ungraded full sets out there. Many of the ungraded sets are listed for $800+ too. There's a few desperate people that have dropped their starting prices to 5 to 600 range. I agree, people are letting them go way too cheap at $650. Plus take 12% off the top for ebay. No way. I don't know why people are still listing them right now.

It will be interesting once the smoke clears.

I'd like to see what you get offered Green. I asked a local dealer about my two sets, and he was only offering $450 each, which needless to say I wasn't interested in.

 

But...what is the difference between the non-key coins in the set and the normal 3 coins from the mint. The answer is nothing. So, if people are paying a premium for the 3 normal coins in a slab that says anniversary set on them...they are paying for the slab and not the coin. The 3 non-key coins in the set were just picked off the line, they are identical to the normal issue coins. Paying the premium is insane and I don't think that premium will last.

 

I have a set with all ngc graded 70's except for the reverse which is a 69. It seems that right now it's going to cost me about $475 on average to get a ngc 25th labeled reverse proof in 70. My personal feelings are now is probably the time to buy because as time goes singles might be harder to find, at least in a pf70. Any thoughts either way? Would I be better off waiting and if so why do you think? Thanks for any input.

And I know I could sell the 69 reverse to offset the cost of the 70, but i've already bought the other 4 coins graded in 69 so I have a complete 69 set to go along with the others. Some reason I couldn't bring myself to sell it and the next logical thing was to complete the set.

 

IMHO, if you want to buy then now is the time. I see prices starting to rebound and I believe they will make a slow climb to the eventual peak. I don't think you will ever see them this cheap again. I bought an S mint in 70 to give me one complete 70 set.

Now the word is the mark by the tailfeathers has shown up on regular issued pieces. Back to square one.

 

That's no more than a rumor - no photographic evidence has been offered of a tail feather dent on a (S) mint bullion coin coming from a San Francisco strapped monster box. So far, the only proven tail feather dents have come from the 25th Anniversary sets.

 

But its being reported from many reliable collectors in Numismatic News that they are finding these on other SF issues. I was interested in this issue as well, but the NN I got in the mail yesterday leads me to believe the 25th Anniversary set coins are not unique.

 

I and others have been in touch with the author of the recent NN article, and it's clear that the conclusions are undocumented and premature. If anyone can show a photo and some hard evidence that they have a pre-25th Anniversary bullion 2011 (S) coin with a tail feather dent, we really need to see it.

 

Did it mention anything about the surface finish? I also heard the bullion from the set had a different finish, kind of like a burnished coin. I don't have any other 2011 eagles so I can't compare anything in-hand.
