Because of this thread, I decided to snatch 5 more sets today! You should work in advertising sector as you really are good at attracting people attention ;-)
I am hoping that there is only ONE of you who snatched 40 sets (congrats though ) and that the number of sold sets in this last week will not significantly increase too many!
Btw, is anyone aware that, in addition to the Silver Proof Set we are discussing here, the 2010 CLAD Proof Set and the 2010 Uncirculated Mint Set may also be big winners as key dates! Yes, I said the "C" word and stand by it . Confession: also got another five sets for each of these two sets  Quoted from Mint News blog (http://mintnewsblog.com/2011/12/last-chance-for-2010-annual-sets/): As of the most recent sales report, the 2010 Proof Set has sold 1,102,698 units. This may become the lowest mintage proof set since 1958 when 875,652 sets were sold. The 2010-dated set will also be significantly below recently issued sets. The mintage for the 2007 Proof Set was 1,702,116; the mintage for the 2008 Proof Set was 1,405,674; and the mintage for the 2009 Proof Set was 1,477,967. The 2010 Uncirculated Mint Set has sold 582,539 units. This may become the lowest mintage mint set since 1962 when 385,285 sets were sold. Once again, the 2010-dated set will be significantly below recently issued sets. The mintage for the 2007 Mint Set was 895,628; the mintage for the 2008 Mint Set was 745,464; and the mintage for the 2009 Mint Set was 774,844. Adding some additional intrigue to the 2010 Mint Set, it is the last to feature satin finish coins. This special finish was utilized by the US Mint for these annual sets and certain other numismatic products from 2005 to 2010. From 2011 onwards, the US Mint is using a brilliant finish, which is generally not differentiated from the finish used for circulating coins.
I should also probably add this link http://news.coinupdate.com/us-mint-sales-numismatic-gold-and-platinum-coins-rise-1131/. It tells you the sale figures through December 27th, 2011. On a small tangent, is there any positive to keep these sets sealed in the box from the mint like some of the other sets (25th ASE)?
I think that depends. If you are putting the individual coins in a series collection, they may be worth more in that setting over that of remaining with the set.
Yep! I picked up a bunch of the Mint sets, also. :thumb: I originally started the thread because silver was so high that the price of the sets (minus the non-silver coins) was approaching "melt". For folks buying bullion, I thought this was a better alternative...they got the same amount of silver, but they also got, what promised to be, coins with numismatic upside potential. The Mint sets are nice because they will be (as you point out) the Key Dates of the Satin sub-Series. :hail:
Great job, yakpoo. I've really enjoyed this thread over the past few months. Future generations will find this discussion when they search for information on the key dates for US Minth Silver Proof Sets. It's a little bit of numismatic history. And we were here for it.
I'm guessing a week from this coming Tuesday...at the earliest. The reports come our each Tuesday (usually) and the Mint has a seven (7) day return policy. I'm wondering if the 2011 sets will catch up or if they will beat out the 2010 sets. Either way, they both will be the lowest mintage sets for quite some time...imo.
In that case I can't wait for next week number. Also true, whatever will happen between 2010 and 2011, one of them will be a key date!
