That's about right. I bought one a couple of months ago for $50. They were issued at $21/set and used to sell for more, but prices drop over time as the remaining sets are perceived to have been cherrypicked (that's my theory, anyway). If you can find a PF70UCAM, NGC lists it at $169. NGC has only graded 125 at that level...don't know about PCGS.

WOW!! The 2010 Silver Proof sets got a big bump in sales this week! I hope it was just CT members getting their fill. :high5:

Silver Proof set sales as of 28 December, 2011...

2010 Silver Proof Set sales: 2,823 for a total of 583,668
2011 Silver Proof Set sales: 4,997 for a total of 537,875

The lowest mintage of any modern Silver Proof set was 1995 (679,984). The average DAILY sales figures for 2010 sets needed by the end of the year (2 Days left) to equal that mintage is...

    2010 Silver Proof Set: (679,984 – 583,668) / 2 = 48,158

The average weekly sales figures for 2011 sets needed by the end of February 2011 (9 weeks left? *) to equal that mintage are...

    2011 Silver Proof Set: (679,984 – 537,875) / 9 = 15,790

    *
    Who knows?

Once the 2010 Silver Proof set sales are finalized, we can start mapping out the weekly sales numbers needed for the 2011 sets to pass the 2010 sets!
    The Key Date Race!!
    :hail:

Heck!...why wait? As it currently stands, the Mint has new product releases projected through February 23rd, 2012...and there's no mention of the 2012 Silver Proof sets. Since the earliest they could come out is a week after that, I'm using nine (9) weeks of further 2011 Silver Proof set sales as a benchmark (it could be longer...it could be shorter, but I doubt it).

There's also a strong likelihood that the prices for silver products will come down in 2012 due to the steep drop in silver prices. The 2011 products would either have to be similarly reduced in price or go off-sale when the 2012 products are released.

So, with all that said, "if" today's sales figures for the 2010 Silver Proof sets were the final sales numbers (I know their not, but they're close...we can revise as we go along) and there are nine (9) weeks remaining for sales of the 2011 Silver Proof sets (again, just a guess), the average weekly sales would have to be 5,088 per week to beat the 2010 sales numbers.

We're hovering right around that number now! The question is...

Will the sales of the 2011 Silver Proof sets increase now that there's only one (1) product vying for the attention of the Coin Collecting Community?

    or...

Will sales drop off after the holidays in anticipation of the 2012 Silver Proof set release (at "perhaps" a lower price target)?

This is a WAG for sure, but I'm thinking the 2011 sets will remain on sale for a *lot* longer than nine more weeks. Maybe even 'till they sell out or year end. Just a gut feeling...

Sure looking forward to the final 2010 number though! After that, I might hit up my local shop for all they've got.

Cheering on the PM pull back too! :) Buying time is around the corner.

Thanks for another great FREE MONEY report! The countdown seems to be going smoothly and on schedule. The "Key Date Race" could turn out to be tight. Real tight. And yes, it will be interesting to see how it all pans out. I think alot of attention this year was focused on the ATB 5 ouncers. Then the focus switched to the Silver Eagle Anniversary Set. While alot of collectors were concentrating on these two mint products, sales for the 2010 Silver Proof Sets just dragged on at a snails pace. And little or no attention was given the 2010. Now here we are with only two days left to buy the 2010 SPS from the mint, and we're seeing historically low sales numbers. No doubt this has and will catch many by surprise.

I'm guessing another 1,200 sets of the 2010's selling through the 30th and for the 2011 sales to begin tapering off a tad bit. Seems logical to me that alot of these recent sales were Christmas gifts. I'm wondering how many folks will be in the "No Spend Mode" now that Christmas is over because many may have overspent a little too much. I agree with Yakpoo, that some collector attention may be directed towards the release of the 2012 set and people may hold on to a portion of their collecting money to purchase that set. I also believe the American Silver Eagles may come into the equation here. Up to this point, 39.2 million 2011's have been sold this year. I read where 16% of the sales occurred in January 2011. So I'm thinking the ASE's may be another "attention diverter" that may or may not affect year end sales of other mint products. I think the 2012 ASE's are scheduled for release January 9th, but don't quote me on that. But, I don't know. I'm just throwing some thoughts out there trying to sort out all the "Ifs and Buts". So we'll see. There's Excitement in the Air!

Well, this is it...less than 24 hours to go before we crown a new Key Date Silver Proof set Champion!! This will be like the San Francisco 49ers winning the SuperBowl again (the last year they won was 1995!). By this time tomorrow it will be all over but the crying.:so-sad:Then we'll have to see if the 2010 sets can defend its position against the 2011 sets.

This year saw the "Perfect Storm" of events. The Mint's shifted its schedule causing an overlap of two (2) of the same Mint Silver Proof products. Bizarre economic conditions also pushed the price of these products up over 15% throughout the year. Silver price volatility resulted in the suspension of Silver Proof set sales three (3) times while the Mint released all sorts of new silver products to compete for the shrinking Collector dollar. ...and shrink it did. Plummeting home prices, record unemployment, pay freezes, and rising food and energy prices just made matters worse.

I hear some folks rationalize this event away as the "New Normal" for US Mint Silver Proof set sales. They say these sets will never sell over 600,000 again. I strenuously disagree. Even with all the bizarre conditions these sets endured over the past year, the two sets combined sold well over 1,000,000. I think this was a one (1) year aberration the likes of which may never be seen again!! :hail:
Although, I have to admit, with the falling price of silver, it may be some time before the true potential of these sets is realized.

"Key Date" implies numismatic interest and not bullion interest in this series. So if the future value is to be determined by numismatic increase, then how does the clad version of these series affect that?

I think of the silver and clad versions as two completely different animals. I just collect the silver ones.
