25th ASE Anniversary Thread, Grading Fees & Results

my 2 sets went to QC grading today

I don't believe that. I have a few friends and they all did better then that and one almost ha 4 full 70 sets from PCGS.

I think the difference is not that big at all.

I hope I am not the start of NGC being more strict with their grades, but here are my results for the sets I submitted (5 each for me, my brother, and my best friend who I got into collecting)...

Looks like I have to try and pick up some extra 70s on eBay while the prices are supressed - the RP & S will be particularly painful but I want to have at least 2 or 3 sets of 70s for each of us. Thanks US Mint for the great packing job (yes heavy sarcasm here)!

As I see more results being posted, I am more displeased with my results of no complete 70 sets out of 5 sent into NGC. Since prices fell so much, I picked up a MS70 S mint on ebay to give me one complete 70 set at least.

 

You may be disappointed, but also think about how you are fortunate to have the sets.

 

Yes, you are correct there. I sometimes forget that aspect. My grading results are one of the two bottom results that I have seen posted from NGC, and is even lower than many PCGS. But in the end, I was able to even order and that is great by itself since so many weren't even able to do that.

Oooo, ouch - I hope goldmember doesn't see those lone set numbers.

 

way to go I have my fingers crossed on my sets. I called NGC today mine are shipped and should be here shortly. I'll post them once I get them.

 

Not sure if I got bad news, or what. I just looked up my results and only one Reverse proof 70, the rest 69's. For the rest though, I had 4 of the 5 70's at least , with all S mints 70's.

What do you think?

One of the sets is going to friend for cost ($414.xx)I plan to keep two sets so I'll try to swap/trade some coins to create another PF70 set
I'm surprised these coins graded as high as they did.

Anybody have the retail values handy for the individual coins? I was able to see the reverse proof NGCPF70 sells for around $415.00 and the "S" sells for around $75.00 on eBay but had trouble locating prices for the other coins.

Are you sure an S sells for so cheap? I am seeing a MS70 going for $370 right now on Ebay and the auction still has a half hour to go. Are you sure you aren't seeing the (s) mint issues with no mintmark?

 

I'll check again. The only one that I could find easily was the reverse proof.

 

I notice that MCM is selling the 25th Anniversary bullion coin graded MS - 69, with the special Black 25 Ann. label including First Strike for just $69. When grading costs are considered, this is below original cost of the coin as it represents only $345/set. (In slabs no less) In comparison, the reverse proof with the same grade is going for $329.

This is the current full no questions asked retail price. This indicates that the numismatic value in this set, as predicted by some us, is going to exist in only one or possibly the two of the coins. The rest won't matter as they are falling back to cost. This would suggest that unless you are confident in getting a grade of 70 on all your coins, then it only pays to have the reverse proof graded and only if it grades a 70.
